Maria Jessica Olvera (MJ), age 27, passed away unexpectedly April 6, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
Visitation: 5 – 8PM Monday, April 17 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 10AM Tuesday, April 18 at St. Francis on the Brazos, 315 Jefferson Ave, Waco, Tx 76701.
Burial: 11AM Tuesday, April 18 at China Spring Cemetery
She was born June 14, 1995 in Clifton, Texas to Jose Celerino and Ofelia Olvera.
Jessica was a 2013 China Spring graduate. She would recall to her family about her hard time learning in school; yet, she valued her diploma since it was a testament to an education her parents provided for her when they themselves could not go to school. She went on to study at MCC for her Associate’s degree.
Everyone knew her as either Jessica or MJ; however, everyone could agree that she was an avid singer, an advocate for animals, and a friend to all. Friends would often find her singing karaoke and songs at venues throughout Waco and Cleburne. When she was not spending her time singing, she loved spending time with her herd of pets that she had at home. Many knew of her passion for her pet chickens, especially her hens, Britney and Modie, and her silky roosters, Chris and Tiro. Her family and friends were also familiar with her inability to leave an animal behind; Jessica often would bring home any animal that she wished to help heal and find a home. She had dreamed of being either a singer or a veterinarian when she was a young girl.
Jessica’s humor and congenial nature attracted everyone she ever met to her shining spirit. She enjoyed living her life to the fullest by having as much fun as she could with her extensive circle of friends from all over Texas. She never shied away from a tough undertaking, and she sought to find her own way ahead when it came to her goals of owning her first car, her first home, and opening more restaurants through her job at Twin Peaks. No one who met MJ could deny that she was determined, and she would always get back up even when she fell “with tears in her eyes”.
Her vibrance and charisma will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Flowers, condolences, and stories about Jessica are welcomed by the family during this time.
She is preceded in death by her three grandfathers, J.L. Davis, Juan Lopez, and Nilo Olvera; grandmother, Marcelina Tapia; her beloved cats, Simon and Preston, and her many pets throughout the years.
She is survived by her parents, Jose and Ofelia; two sisters, Ana and Valerie Olvera; two grandmothers, Pat Davis, and Crecensia Rojas.
Place of Service: St. Francis Catholic Church , 301 Jefferson Ave. Waco TX, 76701

Deeply sorry for the families loss. May God provide comfort in your grief. She was a beautiful beautiful girl . My daughter attended school with her.
The loss of Jessica has hit our town hard, she impacted so many people, she was never a stranger to anyone. My heart goes out to her family. Her smile was contagious and so was her heart of gold. I was glad to have met her and call her a friend. May she rest in peace but her memory will live on forever. We love and miss you Jess!!!
She had the biggest heart out of everyone I’ve ever known. Her love for her family, friends & animals was so big. She always wanted to make sure her friends & family were okay & happy, no matter what she was through of her own, she always made it a point to make sure everyone around her was happy. Every animal she came across to she would always take care of them in the sweetest way possible. She would even feed the little ants at the parks, that’s who she was. She showed so much love to everyone . I know she is watching over everyone of us, & would be so happy to see the amount of love that has been shown for her. I’ll miss you everyday for the rest of my life Jess. Love you forever & always. 💗

I miss you girl. I miss our laughs, and singing together. I’ll never forget the first time we ever hung out, we had a blast and since that time we became good friend’s. I truly don’t think you know how much people loved you and adored you. Thank you for being you always. Although your gone, I know that you are singing all the time and playing with all the animals, doing exactly what you loved but even better up there. You will forever be missed.
My deepest condolences to the family, she was amazing.
MJ was clearly loved by so many. What’s not to love? She was always kind, always laughing. I had the privilege of working with her a couple years back. I’ll always remember her as sweet, silly, and loving. My heart hurts for her and her friends and family. Rest in Peace Jess. 🕊️
Jess I will forever cherish our friendship. I’m truly blessed to have known you. My very first slumber party was at your home. I love you and your entire family. I’ll never forget the time we climbed out of your window. Trying to go say hi to our friends at the end of the road, and we saw the lights turn on “your dad was getting up” we ran back soo fast climbed through your window and pretended to be asleep. That was the most nerve wrecking moment ever! I’ll never forget you me and Jordan walking to zebs sharing burgers, putting our money together for French fries! Staying up late cooking dinner at Jordan’s house! We really did have some great times.. I’ll love you forever I’ll never forget when I left cs you gave me your choir sweater until this day it is still hanging in my closet. Love you always Jess!
Ana, my sincerest condolences to you and all that are grieving the loss of your sister. You all are in my prayers! Beautiful tribute!

My deepest sympathy, condolences, and prayers. I was one of her customers. She was a beautiful soul. Always had a big smile and I love talking with her. MJ you will be missed by many of us.
M.J. you my friend, were the energy in any room hands down! You were easy going, fun, funny, easy to talk to and had the personality of “I’ve never met a stranger” I remember one of our conversations about empanadas, you said you loved empanadas. So I made some apple cinnamon and brought them to you.
The next time I saw you, you asked “What are going to do with the rest of your day” I said well, I’m headed back to the house to fire up the smoker and get creative. You said Oh? In what way? I’m making smoked brisket stuffed bacon wrapped jalapenos and smoked pig shots. You quickly said, “Oh my gosh” will you bring me some? I said sure, I always make more than I can eat. Later that day, I brought them to her and you’d thought I just brought her a bucket of gold! She went on to say, “Any time you’re cooking, you let me know”! I said sure.
M.J. you had a very unique ability to not only inspire but touch nearly everyone you came in contact with. I will miss your Texas size smile, hugs and warm heart. The primary peace and comfort I’ve been able to draw on is my relationship with our lord and savior Jesus Christ. I know in my heart M.J. you are with him enjoying those rich fields of green grass and dancing the streets of gold.
M.J. as it says in scripture, in the book of John chapter 14 verse 3, Jesus said “If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am”.
My deepest condolences to M.J.’s family and friends, my prayers are with you all.
Remember her and the memories.
Have faith in knowing we all will see her again!

My condolences for the loss of your beautiful Jessica. She and my son were in school together all those years and I was there often taking photos for yearbook. I remember her as a sweet girl with a pretty singing voice. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Mj, I am so grateful to have a had a chance to meet you! You were a beautiful soul and I will miss your welcoming smile and hearing you call out “hey spoiled” when you see me… The one thing I admired the most about you was your servant heart. Always traveling to help train and open other stores. You truly cared about others. You will be forever missed. My heart goes out to your family
