Jerry

Jerry Kent, 86, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Funeral Services: 11am Monday, June 10 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John W. Collier officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the chapel service at 10am.

Graveside Committal Service: 2:30pm at Resthaven Memorial Park in Corsicana.

Gerald Leslie Kent was born August 17, 1937 in Corsicana. His mother, Marie Catherine (Eaton) married AB Kent, who adopted Jerry. Jerry eloped with the love of his life, Barbara Sue Gober and they were united in marriage on May 25, 1958 in Oklahoma. In 1959, they moved from Corsicana to Waco to start working at Short and Snappy Grocery. They purchased the business in 1961 and operated it until early 1970’s. In 1972, he established his own company K&T Company with his best friend, Mike Thomas. Later that decade, they started putting in gas stations and continued this venture until Jerry was 80 years old. In the late 1980’s, he found a new passion in four-wheelers and shared that with his granddaughter, Haley. They ended up racing four-wheelers in sand dunes from Oklahoma to California.

Throughout Jerry’s life in Waco, he and Barbara focused on the community by welcoming many into their home, helping young people start a new trade, and more. They truly loved giving back and their impact has been felt throughout the community.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and uncle and aunt, Raymond and Margaret Myrick.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Barbara Kent; children, Kim Hale (Danny), Boyd Kent (Krisann); grandchildren, Haley Grosse (Mark), Chelsea Kent (David), and Taylor Sona (Kuzuki); and four great grandchildren.
