JoAnn (Mickey) Brown-Richter, affectionately known as Nana, went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2024, in Waco, Texas, at the age of 77. Born on December 4, 1946, in Waco, Texas, she was a lifelong resident of China Spring, Tx.

Visitation:   6pm to 8pm Friday, September 13, 2024, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Waco, TX.

Mickey went to China Spring High School and built a rewarding career at Spenco Medical, where she dedicated many years of service until her retirement. She was deeply rooted in her faith and grew up attending Rock Creek Baptist Church.

In 1985, Mickey married Victor (Joe) Richter, who became the love of her life. She embraced Joe’s children as her own, exemplifying her loving, selfless, and loyal nature. Mickey was a determined and strong-willed individual who left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, lovingly survived by her husband, Victor (Joe) Richter; mother, June Brown; sister, Pam Sanders and her husband Terry; brother, Keith Brown and his wife Deidra; sons, Brent May, Joseph Richter and his wife Maggie; daughters, Cheryl May Black and her husband Steven R., Karren Rigby and her husband Joel, Traci Speasmaker and her husband Philip; along with 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a vast number of family members who will miss her dearly. Mickey was preceded in death by her father, Sterling Joe Brown, and her grandparents.

Mickey had a passion for cooking and cherished the time spent with family and friends at Lake Whitney. She was an avid supporter of her grandchildren’s activities, always encouraging and cheering them on.

The family wishes to thank Lake Shore Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance during this difficult time. Mickey Richter’s legacy of love and dedication will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

  7. Mickey and Joe were inseparable and no matter what they were doing–whether drudgery or fun–truly seemed to enjoy their time together! I had the privilege of working with her at Spenco for 20+ years and she was just one of those resilient people who seemed to persevere no matter what the day brought; a remarkable lady who always seemed to look ahead with gladness. She loved her friends and family as those who loved her; no doubt, there are many.
