Christine E. Steffy, born on April 7, 1927, in Jackson County, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, at the age of 97. She grew up in Lees Summit, Missouri, and graduated from Raytown High School. Though her early life was marked by challenges, she was a determined and resilient woman who always sought to better herself and her surroundings.

In her early 40s, Christine made the courageous decision to return to school and earned her degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Her love for learning led her to a career in education, where she served as an elementary school teacher for 21 years. During her time as an educator, she touched countless lives, shaping young minds and providing a strong foundation for future generations.

Beyond her professional life, Christine was known for her green thumb and her love of gardening. She cultivated beautiful flowers and bountiful vegetable gardens, sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Her garden was not only a place of beauty, but a reflection of her resilient spirit and connection to nature.

In addition to her work as an educator and gardener, she had a deep passion for writing. She expressed herself beautifully through poetry and prose, creating many heartfelt and thoughtful works throughout her life. Her words were a reflection of her inner strength and creativity, capturing moments of beauty, reflection, and resilience.

An active member of her community, she dedicated her time and energy to various causes. She volunteered at Temple Civic Theatre, CTLC (Churches Touching Lives for Christ), and her church. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the King, an Episcopal women’s group devoted to service, prayer, and spiritual growth.

Christine is survived by her children: sons Paul Steffy (wife Alma), Brian Steffy (wife Jessica), Phillip Steffy Sr. (wife Kathy), and daughter Elizabeth “Beth Richards” van Es (husband Marcel). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Meagan Noranbrock (Sean), Erin Steffy, Alayna Wiggins Steffy (Courtney), Brandon Steffy (Amelea), Jakob Steffy, Phillip Steffy Jr. (Jody Rodenberg), Elliot Steffy, and Cindy Thomason (Joel), as well as her great-grandchildren Madelyn, Garrett, Zoë, Quinn, Sam, and Tate.

Christine will be remembered for her determination, sense of humor, love of God, and commitment to her community. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her and the many lives she touched along the way.

A memorial service will be held on October 12th in the parish hall at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Waco. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Daughters of the King or the General Fund at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.
