Earlene Adams Oliver was born on March 10, 1926 the second daughter of David Adams and Ethel Fulcher Adams.  Joining her older sister, Bernice, her younger sisters, Clara and Imogene soon followed.  They were reared in the small community of Purdon in Navarro County, Texas.  It was there where they received their formal education.

She met Mr. Eddie Leon Oliver of Calvert, Texas and they married making their home in Waco, Texas.  They remained married until his death in July of 2002.

Family was the main priority for Earlene.  She was the proud mother of four sons – Charles Edward, James Edward, Robert Lee and Billy Carroll – and one daughter, Jacqueline Elaine.  A God-fearing woman, her children were reared in nurture and admonition of our Lord.

A consummate homemaker, she could work wonders in the kitchen and her culinary talents were second to none!  She prepared delectable dishes for her family and friends as she enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Other favorite pastimes included traveling, bowling and studying and teaching the Bible.  Away from the home, she was well known in the Waco community being an Avon products representative for over 50 years.

A Christian, she was a faithful and active member of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church of Waco for over 70 years. There she was a Women’s Missionary Society member, a Deaconess, and led the Kitchen Committee. As a member of the Senior Choir, she enjoyed singing sacred music and her favorite song was “None But the Righteous”.  She remained active in the choir until her health failed, but was always a willing worker serving wherever needed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Leon Oliver, her parents, her sisters and three of her sons, Charles, Robert and Billy.

Her immediate survivors include: her son, James Baldwin (Rosie) of Tyler, Texas, her daughter, Elaine Hamilton (Clarence) of Waco, Texas, 2 daughters-in-law, Gisela Baldwin and Johanna Mosley; son-in-law, Ernest Smith; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a host of devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her New Mount Olive Baptist Church family.

  3. I knew Mrs. Oliver as a quiet but strong Christian who raised her children in the church. She loved the Lord and it was a joy to know her. My sincere condolences to her family and especially to her daughter Elaine who I would always see with her during her declining years. I know she lived a happy life with the loving care she received from her daughter and her husband, Hamp. God bless all of you, she is smiling down at the “flowers “ she and Mr. Oliver produced.
