Michael Sabia Jr., age 93, of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away January 14, 2024. Michael was born on August 6, 1930 in Elizabeth, NJ. He was the fourth child of Michael and Ermina Sabia. They lived in Elizabeth, NJ, Beach Haven NJ, Brick, NJ, Melbourne Beach, FL, and Valley Mills, TX.
Michael went into the Air National Guard during the Korean War. He then went to work for the City of Elizabeth as a police officer. Over the years, Micheal also sold socks and towels at flea markets.
In 1951 Michael met Joan Zimmerman and they were married 1 year later. Eventually they had two children, Joseph, Michael. Last year, Michael and Joan celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
Michael was very active in the flea market circuit. He created a fun atmosphere for shoppers with his singing and jokes, and was widely known as the “Towel Man”.
Michael was preceded in death by parents, Michael and Ermina Sabia, and his siblings Florence Alcamo, Mary Foreman, Tony Sabia, Rose Pacelli, and Joseph Sabia.
Michael is survived by wife, Joan Sabia; children, Joseph Sabia (Jennifer Sabia) and Michael Sabia (Dawn Trevors); grandchildren, Jessica Sabia, Joseph Sabia, and Derek Hoover; great-grandchildren Ethan, Ezra, and Isaiah; brother Carmine Sabia.
