Deborah Alice Magee

Deborah Alice Magee of Waco, passed away February 7, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

Debbie was born October 2, 1952 in Mexia, Texas to Frank and Margaret Dickson. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1971. After graduating high school, Debbie moved to Houston, Texas, where she had her three daughters and began working in the Oil and Gas Industry. The draw of being back home proved too great, and Debbie moved back to Waco where she took a position as an Executive Assistant to the Dean of the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University.

It was here Debbie made her career as she started at Baylor in 1988 and worked in the same position until her retirement in 2020. There, she forged lifelong friendships, and one year was named Employee of the Year, where she was honored with a spot on a float during Baylor’s Homecoming.

One thing Debbie loved to do was throw a party. Whether it was at Baylor, for her girls, or other friends, she loved hosting. Everyone always came away having a great time and everything was always perfect. She absolutely loved traveling, whether it was trips with her husband or taking family vacations to Florida and Colorado. She was always ready to shop. You could always find her either at NorthPark Mall or out antiquing with her girls. But most of all, “Dede” loved spending time with her eight grandchildren and her Boston Terriers.

Shortly after retiring in 2020, Debbie’s retirement dreams scuttered because of the COVID pandemic, and then shortly after that she received her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. But she did not let that deter her, as she spent the last year and half spending as much time as she could with family and friends, making memories that will last throughout the days. The family would also like to recognize caregiver Ester De Los Santos for being there with Debbie these past few months. Whether it was helping her get ready or taking her out to lunch, Ester played a vital role during her last days.

She is preceded in death by her father, Frank Dickson. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Reed; mother, Margaret Dickson; brother Doug Dickson and wife Cindy; sister Donna Flowers and husband Ken; daughter Jessica Fadal and husband Bruce; daughter Lindsey Fuentes and husband Doug; daughter Danielle Valadez; grandchildren Hayden Fadal, William Fadal, Douglas Fuentes II, Margaret Fuentes, Charles Fuentes, Bella Valadez, Zoe Valadez and Remi Valadez.

While she only had three girls of her own, her house was always filled with their friends and laughter. To the “Girls”, she was definitely the “Cool Mom”
