Robert Johnston, U.S. Army (Ret.), 50, of Nolanville, passed away on July 3, 2024 at his home.

Robert was born on March 4, 1974, in San Clemente, California to Stan and Donna Johnston. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1992 and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after. He served over 28 years, including multiple tours of duty in Iraq, Egypt, Kuwait, Kosovo, and Bosnia, and was honored with Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Korean Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (2nd Award), Korea Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal W/ Campaign Star, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2nd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/ 10-Year Device-Bronze Hourglass, Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/ Device, Multinational Force and Observers Medal (2nd Award), and Combat Action Badge.

During his military career, Robert was known for always having to have his coffee, monster and cigarettes as well as his unwavering support for all his fellow soldiers. Oftentimes knowing what they needed before they even knew, and sharing his wealth of knowledge to guide them not only in the military world but in all aspects of life.

After retiring from the military, Robert continued to serve his family and community as a pillar of guidance and strength. He was a partner and business owner of R&R Tactical, supporting the needs of military servicemen, veterans, police, and their families. He was known for his outspoken nature, boisterous laugh, and wealth of knowledge. Whenever a problem arose, he was the first to jump into action and help those around him. Robert enjoyed a good beer, watching Nebraska football, fishing and hunting, spending holidays with his family, watching his son’s football games, and having heart-to-heart talks with his daughter, as well as watching his grandchildren grow.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Arlene Young, Dave and Cathy Adams, and Leonard and Mable Johnston.

Robert is survived by his wife, Natalie Johnston; daughter, Kaylynn (Johnathan) Kelley; son, Robert Johnston; step-children, Hannah (Seth) Ryan, and Josh (Kobe) Bratcher; three grandchildren, Cooper Ryan, Clay Ryan and Sage Bratcher; parents, Stan and Donna Johnston; brother, Scott Johnston; and numerous other relatives.

    I still find this unrealistic. I’ve known you for over 20 years Battle. I will never forget those heart to heart conversations we had. I will never forget how you would help out our soldiers when they needed something. I will also never forget how you would kick everyone out of YOUR supply room.
