Janet Lynn Scheske,70, of Lorena, left this Earth to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024.

Graveside Service: 10am Monday, September 30, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S. Fifth St., Waco TX.

Janet was born on March 29, 1954, in Alpena, Michigan, and was the beloved daughter of Clayton and Marie Smith.

Janet dedicated her life to caring for others, beginning her career as a nurse in Michigan, married her husband Vern and moved to Texas. She continued as a labor and delivery nurse in Tomball then became Charge nurse at Kingwood Hospital. Janet continued her nursing journey and became a cherished school nurse at Trinity Lutheran until she retired to take care of her mother. She had a beautiful family, including daughter Amy and son Chris, and later moved to Waco to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.

Her passion extended beyond her profession; she was actively involved with her church and loved spending time with her family and her furry friends. Many referred to her affectionately as “Nanny the Nurse.” She loved her family, entertaining guests, pajama parties, playing games, watching movies, as long as everyone was “Having Fun!”

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Richard.

Janet is survived by brother, Tom Smith; sister, Karen and her husband Dan Ledford; daughter, Amy and her husband Jerome; son, Chris Lucas; granddaughters, Taylor, Kaela, Kyra; grandson, Hayden; niece,Kim and husband Steve Spangler, their children Colby and Camden; niece, Kellie and her husband Jay Givens, their children Mary and Mark and her dogs Chloe and Ziggy, along with countless friends.

  1. I just heard about Jan’s passing. I taught school at Trinity Lutheran while Jan was the nurse. I loved her!! We all did. She had such a great laugh and smile. That’s how I will always remember her – with a big smile on her face!

  2. My sweet sister from another mister. I was blessed to have Janet in my life. She will be missed. But she is with the Lord now eating a feast of crab
    legs. She can even have salted butter with it now. Love and miss you sweetness.
