Roy John Evans

Evans

Roy John Evans, 72, of Waco, TX, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on October 21, 2024, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Roy and his wife, Denise, were married for 35 years.

Roy was born and grew up in Clearfield, PA. As an undergraduate, Roy studied psychology at Penn State University, and went on to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). He later earned a B.S. in Management and an MBA from Maryville University St. Louis, St. Louis, MO.

Roy’s professional passion was improving healthcare. Throughout his career, Roy tirelessly pursued ways to more effectively serve the needs of patients. After working as an RRT, he then served as director of respiratory therapy in several hospital systems in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Missouri and Texas. He was also Vice President of Clinical Services at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport, PA; and most recently retired in January from Valley Baptist Health System in Harlingen, TX, where he served as Chief Quality Officer. Roy was also a senior lecturer for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, where he taught and mentored medical students and residents about quality and risk management.

Roy’s favorite personal pastime was spending time with Denise. His favorite vacation trips were those taken to the Outer Banks, NC and to Santa Fe, NM. He loved fishing, especially lake fishing for bass; adopting a huge menagerie of pets throughout the years including horses, goats, chickens, cats and dogs; helping Denise compete at horseshows; discussing horseracing with his brother Greg; watching his favorite Clint Eastwood movies; and enjoying the Christmas season, which for Roy started in July each year.

Roy had a deep and unwavering faith in God. He modeled what it is to truly be a Christian every day of his life. Even in his struggle with cancer, Roy’s faith never waned. He was a kind, generous soul who shone a light for everyone around him. The world has lost a wonderful man, but heaven has gained another warrior for Christ.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Gail Evans; his brother, Tom Evans; and his mother, Annabelle Evans. In addition to his wife, Denise Massey Evans, Roy is survived by his brother, Greg Evans, of Clearfield, PA; and sons Matthew Evans, of Pittsburgh, PA; and Eric (Sarah) Evans and grandchildren Lydia and Grady Evans, of Clearfield, PA.

Burial and a private memorial service will be held at a later date at Mountain Ash Cemetery, Laporte, PA. Donations in Roy’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org.
