Memorial Service: 3PM Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.
Born on November 26, 1955, in Garland, Texas, Don was a cherished member of his community and an extraordinary friend to many.
Don grew up in Otto, Texas, before relocating to Mart with his parents and sister, where he graduated from Mart High School. It was during this time that he cultivated his enduring interests in working on cars and enjoying time with friends. Following high school, he proudly served two years in the United States Air Force as a mechanic, maintaining aircraft engines—an experience that shaped his strong work ethic and love for hands-on tasks.
After his military service, Don dedicated 25 years of his life to the United States Postal Service, where he was well-known in Mart and Mexia for his kindness and extensive knowledge of postal operations. He treated every customer with respect and warmth, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
Don’s vibrant spirit shone through in his hobbies. An avid motorcyclist, he loved riding his Harley Davidson across the country, creating unforgettable memories with friends. He had a passion for boating and enjoyed hosting gatherings at his lake house in Mexia, where laughter and camaraderie flowed freely. Don was also known for his entertaining poker nights and his enthusiasm for collecting vintage items, including old signs, fans, and unique knickknacks.
Don’s loving nature extended to those around him; he was always willing to lend a hand to friends in need. His strength as a father and grandfather was evident in the deep bonds he shared with his children and grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth “Sonny” Hicks; mother, Barbara Hicks; daughter, Nyssa Ann Hicks; and grandson, Jackson Wyatt Lindner.
He is survived by his sister, Susie Hicks; daughter, SuDonna Kay Lindner (Donny); son, Kenneth Dustin Hicks (Mechelle); grandsons, Kenneth Daxton Hicks, Judson Rhett Lindner and Zane Lee Hicks; and nieces April Conaway and Nancy Burkett (Rizzo).
Don’s legacy of kindness, passion, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
