It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Melvin Justus Ball, age 88, of Hallsburg, Texas, who departed this world Wednesday, November 20, 2024 surrounded by family.

Melvin was born July 11, 1936, in Duncombe, Iowa, to his loving parents, James William Ball and Mary Margaret Schwering. With a life that spanned nearly nine decades, Melvin leaves behind a vibrant legacy marked by the love of family, a strong work ethic, and a steadfast commitment to those dear to him. 

Melvin spent his formative years in Iowa where he dedicated many years to installing doors for Overhead Door Company and North Iowa Door Company. His skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail became hallmarks of his work, earning him respect in his field and the appreciation of countless homeowners.

He loved spending time with family playing cards, talking, and helping with projects. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and took great pride in his lawn. He loved “his” Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs and NASCAR.

He was preceded in death by brothers, James Ball, William Ball (Evelyn), Irven Ball, Thurlow Ball, and Donald Ball (Janice); and sister, Mary Evelyn Halligan (Wayne). 

He is survived by his five children, Lisa Garrett-Stielau (Frank), Richard Todd Ball (Ke), Pamela Pickett (Donald), Angela Eastwood (Chad), and Jason Blaha; grandchildren, Jesse Garrett, Seth Garrett (Nicole), Jennifer Losee (Jeff), Lyndsey Florey, James Hansen, Nicole Hansen (Jana), Nancie Ball, Jayvynn Garrett, Ze-Dynn Garrett, Brandyn Nelson, Coltyn Nelson, Devyn Nelson, Nathan Eastwood, and Dawson Eastwood; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard Ball (Cheryl); sisters, Lavonne Smart, Marcella Shipman (Francis), and Ina Schwandt; and sister-in-law, Pauline Ball.

Melvin’s memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him, reminding us to cherish every moment and hold our loved ones close. Rest in peace, Melvin Justus Ball. You will be deeply missed.
