After a weekend of blessed fellowship with her family, Betty V. Messimer, 88, passed from this earthly life to eternity with Jesus, after a short illness.
Graveside Service: 10AM Thursday, August 27th at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook, TX with Rev. Claudine Chaney officiating.
A Memorial Service will follow at Christian Fellowship Church in Westbrook.
No Visitation is planned.
Betty was born July 14, 1927 near the town of Tye in Taylor County to Henry Russell Bird and Velta Inez Poston Bird. She grew up in Mitchell County on her family farm, graduating from Westbrook High School. She was the oldest of six children. On October 25, 1945 she married John Pete Hines and together they had three sons, John Russell, Clyde David, and Steven Douglas Hines. Pete preceded her in death in 1971. She then became the librarian at Westbrook High School and retired from there after 20 years. She married an old high school friend, Cecil Messimer in 1992 and they were blessed to have 22 years together before he passed away in 2014. She spent her remaining years attempting to read everything she had not had the time to read until then.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her sister Joy Thompson and her brothers Henry Russell Bird, Jr. and Donald Ray “Butch” Bird.
Betty is survived by her sons, John and Carla Hines of Crawford, Texas, Clyde and Darlene Hines of Lovington, New Mexico and Steve and Dedra Hines of Houston, Texas; brother, Bill Bird of San Angelo; sister, Rebecca Del Real of Colorado City, Texas.
