Billie was born to Nathan Bozeman McKinney and Essie Lena Pippin McKinney May 27, 1926. She graduated from Waco High in 1944. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Douglas Louis Porter. It was not long before Douglas was called into full-time ministry, and this was the beginning of their lifelong love of serving the Lord. She was active in WMU, GA’s, Awana’s and always helped with Vacation Bible School. She was the family Matriarch and the glue that held us together. She worked for Waxahachie ISD as a substitute teacher before returning to Waco in 1977. She worked at Wolfe Wholesale Florist and retired from Tatex Thermographers in 2000.

She felt it was a privilege to volunteer at Care Net for 18 years. She also loved her time at Neighbors International and was so proud when she helped her students pass the US Nationalization test. She attended Bible Study Fellowship and she never missed an opportunity to share the love of Christ with others. She lived a life that glorified Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

    Porter Family,

Mrs. Porter was always a shining light at FBC Elm Mott. We remember her always smiling and greeting everyone with kindness beyond compare. No matter what was going on in her life, she always took the time to make others feel special. We will never forget her hugs. Although small in size, Mrs. Porter’s hugs were big in love and warmth. She will always hold a special place in our hearts and those of our 3 girls. Hold tight to your wonderful memories and let them put a smile on your face.

  15. I had the opportunity to know Billie and sat next to her every Tuesday in the Bible study at CareNet. From last year till like two months ago when she stopped coming. What her son shared at the funeral is true! She loved people with the love of Christ, her hugs were deep and warm oozing with her great love for Christ. When I was told she had gone to be with the Lord, much as it was hard to process. I smiled! Coz I knew where she was going. She always told us she was ready!
Enjoy heaven Billie with your Lord! Till we meet.
