Gene was born August 15, 1936 in Blevins and he was the 7th of 8 children.
Gene grew up farming in Central and West Texas areas. It was difficult for him not to have farm animals around. He rode horses, raised cattle, chickens and occasionally a goat or two. Gene carried on in his daddy’s footsteps by liking sports and by spending time with others, both family and extended family alike. He was an avid domino player, pitch player and on occasion tried to play the game of golf. In his younger days Gene enjoyed playing softball and bowling in leagues with family. Later Gene would coach baseball and softball, he would observe the players and based on his observations make recommendations to improve their skills. One thing to be said, whatever he did, his intention was to excel and win. Gene retired from Arco Bell as a mechanic and machinist. He used this mechanical aptitude to make mechanical repairs for family and friends, as well as be the teacher to those who wanted to learn.
Gene had a can-do attitude. He was very personable, made friends easily and some would say, had a gift of gab. He enjoyed music and singing, could tell the best stories, would reminisce of growing up between Central and West Texas, but most importantly his family was his rock.
Gene will be remembered as a mentor, leader, son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle. I guess you can say, he was a fairly good all-around fella. With all of these labels he performed well and true to task. He was truly loved and will be missed by many.
God received a great new angel who now is having conversations, singing with his family and enjoying his new life in heaven.
He is preceded in death by two sons, Nathan Tye and Douglas Tye; mother, Sara (Sally) Tye; father, Curtis Tye; sisters, Flossie Gertrude Ingram, Lula (Cat) B. Flemmons, Vera (Dute) Mae Lawrence; and brothers, Curtis Tye Jr., Alvin (Dobbin) Tye, Maxie (Dean) Tye, Carl Laverne Tye and Johnny Wayne Tye.
Gene leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Charlene (Jobe) Tye; daughter, Debbie Permenter and husband, Freddie; son, Randy Tye and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Kristie Lopez, Amanda Cook, Rachel Calvin and Lori Tye, and great-grandchildren, Anthony Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Mallorie Calvin and Tyler Cook.
In lieu of flowers the Tye family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

To Carlene and family: so sorry for your loss. Gene was a great individual and I always enjoyed visiting with him. My fondest memories are of him helping coach softball when Amanda played. He loved those girls and they loved him. Anytime we visited that all ways seemed to come up in the conversation. Again, very sorry for your loss🙏🏽❤️
I will miss my old friend, Coach Herbert
I am so sorry for your loss. He was a great man and my daddy (Dean) loved him and looked forward to his visits with daddy at the nursing home. May he rest in peace and ya’ll rest easy knowing he is now in the arms of our Lord.
Gene was a true friend. He never met a stranger & was willing to help when ever he could. He will be missed by family & friends. Prayers for Charlene & family.
We are very sorry for your loss. I can remember Uncle Gene would bring a smile to our dad’s (Dean) face every time he would visit. They would both sit and talk about old times and drink diet cokes. He will be missed but know he is in heaven and we will all meet again someday. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know if you need anything.
Charlene and family, I am saddened to hear of Gene’s passing. He, Melvin, Levi and Johnny are probably getting up a golf game in heaven. He was a good friend and good man. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
