Brigette Helga Lambert Freeman Owens, a woman of strength, resilience, and boundless love, passed away on April 13th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of courage and warmth that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born as Helga Brigette Lambert in 1964 in Wiesbaden, Germany, Brigette faced the early loss of her mother at the tender age of 8. Alongside her siblings, she was adopted by her aunt and embarked on a new chapter in Mt. Vernon, Texas. It was there that she blossomed, excelling in cross country track during her high school years and earning numerous accolades for her athletic prowess. At 18, Brigette set out on her own journey, demonstrating her independent spirit from a young age. She embraced motherhood with grace and determination, welcoming her son into the world when she was just 20 years old. At 22, fate led her to Rodney J Owens Sr., her devoted husband, with whom she shared many cherished years. Their life together took them on adventures across South and Central Texas before finding solace and fulfillment on their farm near Waco.
Brigette’s resilience was put to the test when she survived a brain aneurysm in the early 90s, a testament to her strength and unwavering spirit. Known for her loyalty, wit, and tireless work ethic, Brigette faced life’s challenges with grace and determination. Tragedy struck again with the passing of her beloved husband Rodney, followed by a diagnosis of cancer in 2009. Despite the hardships she endured, Brigette remained a pillar of strength, inspiring all who knew her with her resilience and optimism. After a valiant battle, Brigette was called home to reunite with her husband and loved ones in heaven. She leaves behind a vast network of family and friends who were touched by her kindness, generosity, and boundless love.
Brigette is survived by her son Tony Hernandez of Waco, Texas and family; her siblings Wolf-Dieter Lambert and Petra Pfeffer of Germany and family; Renate Conner & Rick Conner of Winnsboro, Texas and family; Heidi Gamet & Russ Gamet of Port Allegany, Pennsylvania and family; her adoptive mother Waldtraut Freeman; adoptive siblings K.C. Freeman-Crowden and Chris Freeman of Mt. Vernon, Texas and family; and her step-children Shannon Wiggins, Shane Owens, RJ Owens, and Fabian Owens and family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Rodney J Owens Sr., adoptive father Bryan Freeman, mother Renate Beck, and father Wolfgang Lambert. A graveside celebration of life service will be announced to friends and family honoring Brigette’s remarkable life and the impact she had on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
