Charles (Charlie) Lewis Davis

Charles (Charlie) Lewis Davis, born November 12, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 21, 2023. He was the fourth child of Will Henry and Mabel Oma Davis, who preceded him in death along with his siblings Nettie Jean Robinson, William “Bud” Davis, and Margie Nell Davis.

A graduate of Brownfield High School, Class of 1962, armed with determination and a strong work ethic, he entered the workforce as a meat cutter (butcher), showcasing his skills at Millgrams, Food Fair, United Supermarket, and Furr’s. His dedication and workmanship were further demonstrated during his tenure with Halliburton and Yellow Freight Lines, where he became a respected member of the professional community. Charles concluded his working years with honor, retiring from Conway Freight.

Retirement ushered in a new chapter for Charlie, one filled with the simple pleasures of life. He embraced the simplicity of rural living, dedicating his time to working on his farm, raising livestock, bailing hay, and cultivating vibrant rose, flower, and vegetable gardens. He loved to cook farm-to-table meals, and after dinner, he and Joyce loved sitting on the porch swing, drinking tea, talking, and listening to the sounds of nature. His hands told the story of a hard-working man who found happiness in the simple things life had to offer.

In a testament to the resilience of the human heart, Charlie was blessed with a second chance at love when he met Joyce Ann Spillman. They united in marriage on January 15, 2016, creating a blended family filled with love and shared experiences. Charlie gained two bonus daughters, Beverly Gamber (Bart) and Lisa Smith-Curtean (Isaia), along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom cherished and cared for him deeply. On September 6, 1963, Charlie married Carol Louise (Monroe) Davis, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2015. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared the joys and challenges of life. From their union, Charlie leaves behind two sons, Donald Lewis Davis and Michael Scott Davis, along with four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his immediate family, Charlie leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories woven through the lives of his friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, wisdom, and kindness will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched.

Among those who hold cherished memories of Charlie is his grandson, Adam. Over the course of the last few years leading up to his death, Charlie and Adam shared many special moments. Whether it was the quiet wisdom imparted during the sharing of the Bible, prayer, or conversations about life lessons, the joy found in shared laughter, or the comfort of simply being in each other’s presence working on home remodel projects, these moments created a bond that will be missed.

In the legacy of Charlie’s life, these shared experiences stand as a testament to the depth of his relationships and the impact he had on the lives of those around him.
