Charlie Bates, 80, of Lacy Lakeview, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at a local nursing center.

Graveside Service: 11AM Saturday, January 13th at St. Martin Cemetery in Tours.

Visitation: 6 to 8PM Friday, January 12th at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.

Charlie was born November 23, 1937 in Uvalde to Morris T. and Sarah Lona (Dossey) Bates. He worked 35 years for Department of Public Safety as a State Trooper, retiring as a Lieutenant in September 1993. He served on Lacy Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, 4 years as Fire Chief. He also coached Lakeview Little League All Stars and was Lakeview Little League President for 4 years. Charlie loved his family dearly and was a passionate deer hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sumner Halbert Bates; and grandson, James Kolar Bates.

Survivors include wife of 58 years, Margie Bates of Lacy Lakeview; daughter, Cathy Sulak and husband Mark of Malakoff; sons, Jim Bates and wife Donna of McGregor, and Brady Bates and wife Lisa of Plano; grandchildren, Tonya Sulak, Justin Sulak, Wendy Osborne, Jarred Sulak, Caitlin Bates, Leah Bates, Dawson Bates, Sarah Bates, and Mary Bates; great grandchildren, Stihl, Grainger, and Jaeger Schubert; brother, Truett Bates and wife Marilyn of Pearl; and numerous other relatives.
