Douglas Porter passed away on Monday evening, September 16, 2024, at Hillcrest Hospital surrounded by his family.

Visitation:  1pm to 2:30pm Tuesday, September 24th at Lake Shore Funeral Home

Funeral Service:  2:30pm Tuesday, September 24th at Lake Shore Funeral Home

Interment:  Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin, TX

Doug was born on September 8, 1947, in Waco to Billie Ruth (McKinney) Porter and Douglas Louis Porter Sr. He was the oldest of seven children.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Mary Ellen Porter, son Glen King, parents Billie and Douglas Porter, brother David Porter.

Doug had a distinguished career in the US Army, where he rose from an enlisted aviation air crew member to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. His commitment to duty was evident throughout his multiple deployments, including two tours to Vietnam and his service during Operation Desert Storm. Retiring after 32 years, he continued to serve by working at Central Texas College and partnering with Ft Hood Army Base to teach troop school.

Beyond his military career, Doug was deeply engaged in civic duties. He served as a city council member and held the position of Mayor Pro Tem for the city of Marlin. Most notably, his passion for community service was reflected in his involvement with the local church. As a Deacon, he alongside his wife Mary Ellen, devoted countless hours to church activities, often seen working late into the night on projects like vacation Bible school. His love for Christ was evident in every aspect of his life

Doug was a man of profound faith, dedicating his life to Christ and serving others. His role as a dedicated husband provided a shining example of love and honor, from which we all learned so much. He was a proud father, loving grandfather, brother, uncle, and a cherished friend to many.

Doug is survived by his son, Douglas Porter III (Heaven), daughter Paula Graf (John), daughter Becky Copeland (Roger), daughter Tammy Spruce (Bob), sisters Anne Miller, Robyn Blancett, Jan Lovorn, Holly Payne, and brother Timothy Porter. He had 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
