After a short battle with cancer, on August 10, 2024, Cindy received her eternal promotion to Heaven. She was excited to see Jesus and her loved ones that arrived before her. Throughout her life, Cindy touched the hearts of many with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering spirit. She was always quick to share the love of Christ with those around her.
Cindy was raised in Waco, Texas and attended schools in south Waco before transferring to Waco High to sing in the choir. She was a proud member of the Golden Voices and received a voice scholarship for college, which she declined when she chose to get married. She was a remarkable individual, known for her generosity and dedication to her large family and many friends. Cindy loved fellowshipping with friends and never met a stranger.
Cindy met the love of her life, John McElroy, in her first semester of her senior year in High School. They were married that Spring Break, March 21, 1970, at Kendrick Lane Baptist Church in Beverly Hills, TX. In their 54 years of marriage, they raised 4 children and were blessed with 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She spent many years teaching early education in public and private schools. She and John worked together in starting and pastoring churches in Texas, and later traveled to several states, as missionaries for BEAMS. They were very honored to help raise support to provide the Word of God to believers all over the world. Sharing God’s Word was the thing she was passionate about.
She was preceded in death by parents, J.C. and Margaret Golson, and youngest son, Parker Bradley McElroy. She is survived by her sister, Patricia (Golson) Dixon of Hewitt, TX; beloved husband, John A. McElroy, Sr. of McGregor, TX; children, Margo Hays and husband John of Axtell, TX, Rebecca Hughes and husband Tim of Vicksburg, MS, and John McElroy, Jr. and wife Jessica of Holts Summit, MO; daughter-in-law, Veronica McElroy of Nesbit, MS; grandchildren, Mason Hays, Dalton Hays and wife Machaila, Abigail Hughes, Hannah Hughes, Marleigh Hughes, Olivia McElroy, R.C. McElroy, Joel McElroy, Aaron McElroy, Thomas McElroy, Samuel McElroy, Amy McElroy, Ryla McElroy and Gideon McElroy; and great-grandchildren, Kenzleigh Hays, John Wyatt Hays, Laykeland Hays and Raelynn Hays (expected in September). Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
The pallbearers will be John McElroy, Jr., Timothy Hughes, Mason Hays, Aaron McElroy, Thomas McElroy, and Sam McElroy.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Daniel Schmidt and the 4N nurses at Providence, Dr. Snedden and his nurse Laura, the amazing staff at West Rest Haven and the nurses and aides of Station 2, and Community Healthcare of Texas Hospice. Additionally, to all the family and friends who have texted, called, emailed, prayed and assisted during this unexpected medical battle, we cannot thank you enough. Your love has been felt and has not gone unnoticed.
