Daniel Filmore Morgan, 95, of China Spring, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2015.

Graveside Service: 3 PM Friday, May 29th at Bosqueville Cemetery with Rev. Erik Emblem officiating.

Visitation:  5-7 PM, Thursday, May 28th at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.

Dan was born in Bosqueville, Texas to Thomas Cary and Myrtle Faye (Garrett) Morgan. The oldest of five children, the family moved to Waco so that Dan could go to Waco schools where he graduated from Waco High in January of 1937. He joined the National Guard in 1936. He spent six months in the Civilian Conservation Corp., stationed at Camp Verde, Arizona. Upon his return home, Dan went to work for his father’s plumbing company, later named TC Morgan and Son Plumbing Co. He earned his Journeyman Plumbing License in 1939 and his Master Plumbing License in 1946.

Dan married Leotia A. Netherland on March 15, 1940. To this union three children were born; Tommy, Phyllis and D.W.. In 1964, the couple bought a ranch in the China Spring area, where they spent the remainder of their lives. They planted oats, hay and a garden, as well as raising cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, peafowl, and Great Pyrenees dogs. Dan was an avid hunter and fisherman and an active member of Grace Baptist Church of China Spring.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 75 years, Leotia, who died April 4; sister, Cary Lois Simpson; brothers-in-law, Marvin Heine, Roger Williams and Leonard Simpson; son-in-law, Terry Thomas; and daughter-in-law, Kathie Morgan.

Survivors include his sons, Tommy and wife, Cheryl of Valley Mills and D.W. of China Spring; daughter, Phyllis Thomas of China Spring; sisters, Mary Dell Williams and Faye Heine; brother, Hoyt Morgan; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tom Morgan, Tim Morgan, Sam Morgan, Joey Morgan, Danny Thomas and Shannon Thomas.

In 2002 Dan wrote his own obituary. He ended it by saying, “Thanks for listening. So long, everybody. God bless us all. I (sic) see you in heaven!”
