David Hinsley

HINSLEY

David C. Hinsley, 82, of Hewitt, passed on to his Heavenly home October 3, 2024 at Coral Rehabilitation and Nursing in McGregor.

Memorial Service: 2PM Friday, October 11 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.

David was born April 13, 1942 in Neosho, Missouri to John “Jay” Hinsley and Mozelle Crider Hinsley, the youngest of three children. They moved back to Texas when he was young and resided in Bellmead where he attended LaVaga schools and graduated from LaVaga High School. After graduation he went on to attend 4C business college and from there he went on to work for the City of Waco at the Mt. Carmel Water Treatment plant where he worked until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed the retired life and liked using his free time to walk the mall and watch football. He especially loved watching the Baylor Bears. He loved being a PawPaw and would talk about his grandchildren to anyone who would listen. He was also a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Waco and although the last few years couldn’t attend church in person, he would always find a service to watch on T.V.

David met the love of his life Claudette on a bind date. The two wed on January 27, at Tidwell Bible Chapel on Baylor University campus. They were happily married for 53 years until her passing in August of 2020. He still spoke of her daily.

Preceeding him in death is his wife, Claudette; parents, John and Mozelle; brother, John Hinsley; sister and brother in law, Kay and Ray Jackson; brothers in law, Jerry Gill and Randy Riggs; and son and daughter in law, Joe and Billie Hinsley.

He is survived by his daughter, Erica Hernandez and husband Isaac; sister in laws, Ouida Hinsley and Elaine Gill; grandchildren, Isaac “Peanut”, Lillyanna “Lilly”, Jaylynn “JayJay”, and Gabriella “Gabby” Hernandez; as well as many other nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Coral Rehabilitation of McGregor and Gentiva Hospice for their loving care during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in hopes that one day a cure will be found.

“Go be with Momma again Daddy; we will take it from here. We love you to the moon and back.”

Place of Service: Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel , 5201 Steinbeck Bend; Waco, TX 76708

He showed you the way, Erica. A true Hinsley—hard working, lover of God, faithful, and a lover of his family, a patriarch! For me, another cousin has gone on ahead of me. God bless you and yours, Erica.
