I taught with Delbert at China Spring Middle School. He was a good man, a good daddy, and spoke with pride of his wife and children. He was a lot of fun to be around. His "countrified" humor and comments always brought a smile to my face. He will be missed. My heart is heavy for his family, and those sweet grand-babies that should have had more time with him.
On behalf of the McLennan County Jr Livestock Show, I extend our deepest sympathy to the Whiteside family. Delbert was truly dedicated to the youth of McLennan County and to our association. He will be missed. May you be comforted by the precious memories of your husband, father, and educator.
Uncle Delbert was a great man. I remember all the times Granny use to get after him for pestering all his nieces and nephews when we visited. I remember when he use to pinch me with his claw. LOL. Later in life and the most I remember of him is when he helped bring me out of the darkest moment of my life. I could never be sad around him. His smile was so infections and I love him for that. He was a second father for me. I love you and can’t wait to see you again. -Chad
Teaching with Delbert was such a delight. He was a ray of sunshine in the teacher’s lounge. He had such a fun disposition, and you just never knew what he was going to do or say next. He always kept us on our toes. Rest in peace my friend.
One of my most favorite teachers from high school…I have some wonderful memories that I share with my kids and they still put a smile on my face. Over the years he has always been fun to talk to and would just make your day better. Gonna miss that. RIP. He was a good man. My thoughts and prayers to the family. God bless.

To Vicki & her kids- so very sorry for your loss. Delbert was a great guy & thought of so well in the CS community. My Mom (Martha Bird) loved working with him at CSISD. She considered Delbert as one of her kids, and thought so much of your family. My prayers are with you.
Uncle Delbert was always nice to me when I asked him a bunch of questions.

Hmmm, what can i say about my uncle delbert?? Honestly, there is so much to say I can’t say it all in one day. He is hands down one of my favorite people in the world! He would do anything for me & for my babies & i believe that with all of my heart! When i was younger he would drive out of his way to pick me up & drop me off so i could stay at his house & once i got there he would do whatever it took to make sure i had a good time. He could make me laugh no matter how upset or down i was. I figured after my granny passed away i would never see him again but then he retired & ive got to see him more in the last two years than i ever have. I love getting to see him & hear all of his crazy stories about his students! I remember when i was younger & he came over he would help me with all my homework 😛 When he started working at the storage buildings he would always grab something silly for the boys & bring it to us! I love this man with all my heart! Ive never saw him in a bad mood or with a negative attitude. I would always say i wanna be treated like Mrs. Kay & he would always tell me that i have to learn to cook like her. lol He loved duck dynasty! He could go on and on about it for hours!! Last night when i was packing for the funeral i kept thinking ‘i cant wear this uncle delbert will make fun of me & the boys cant wear this & so on’ & i had to keep reminding myself of why im packing): i am going to miss everything about this man!! There was something absolutely amazing about him!
Delbert will be missed so much. He could make me smile even when he was throwing out jabs at me. When I would see him, he always seemed to say just the right thing to get me to hit him, lol (lovingly). I’ve known him, first through school, then through Vicky and family. I’ve watched their children grow into wonderful adults and now see their children grown. Delbert would always say he was so glad to see the kids go home but the look in his eyes when he talked about the grandchildren would always leave me knowing he was lying! He loved those kids and loved having them with him. And just looking at the pics of them with him, I could tell they loved and worshiped him too! A love like Vicky and Delbert’s didn’t come along every day. They were special. I could go on and on about how they were together but just know they loved each other and it was so clearly seen. Love you all and my GOD be with you in this difficult time.
O Mr. Whiteside….. Man I have so many memories I don’t know where to begin…Growing up down the street from you was very fun and we’ll interesting.. I learned so many things. I I learned that I will Never have a farm because when I would call and ask if Jenny could play there was a list of about 20 things that she had to do first. You would always say "if you come and help her it will go by a lot faster". I also remember dinner time very well. You would always try to make me eat things and would hound me until I at least tried it…My favorite memory of all and something that would stick with me forever is you saying "Holly it’s time to go home cause we are having chicken tonight" I want to thank you for all the memories.
To the family you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Vicki, Debbie, Virginia and Joseph: Our thoughts are with you all during this time of sorrow. Delbert’s generosity and love for people and creatures – both great and small – defined the caring person we were honored to have known.
I am going to miss the talks that we had at church. We will miss you Dearly, but I know you will be there watching over everybody. I know I barely know you but, I can tell you are a great husband, father, and soon to be grandpa. I will always have in my heart. God bless you!!!
I am so sorry for your loss. I work with Delbert at the high school. Then I got to know Virginia from school and the credit union and I can’t tell you how I feel about losing Delbert. May God hold and keep you in his hand.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Delbert’s family. We knew him and Vicki when he first began teaching Ag at China Spring Hight School. He was a great person and a teacher that could motivate his students. He taught our daughter so much in Ag and how to be a good person. Have not seen him or family since we moved from China Spring, but he is someone you will never forget. Fond memories
I will never forget:
My first year teaching (11 years ago) I was sitting in the teachers lounge. I was fascinated by the hook on Delbert’s hand. I began staring across the table at his hook, trying to figure out how it worked. I didnt realize that me staring was that obvious. While in a daze looking and thinking…Delbert quickly snapped his hook at my face. I jumped and fell out of my chair. He and I just started laughing. He had such a great sense of humor. I hold a special place in my heart for him. Thank you for all the memories.
Vicky and family, you all are in our thoughts and prayers! We are sadden with your sudden and most difficult loss! May God comfort and strengthen through the coming days!

When I look back at high school and think of my favorite teacher, I think of him. My first day in Ag. class, he challenged me about staying in there for the whole year and little did he know I would stay in there all 4 years! He was my mentor that taught me that I could hold my own in those classes with the boys. I did not know at the time that those years in FFA would help me out in my adult life. I knew that he believed in me and through a little teasing on his part, it made me a very strong and independent person. And because of this, I have to say thank you to him. For some reason the other day, I looked at my high school memory book and found that I had kept my name tag from my Ag. locker. It made me smile. All it said was "SHORT". That was the only name he ever called me by and I can still hear saying it today! Thank you to his wonderful family for sharing him with all of us students. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. He was truly special.
