Doris Lee Halliburton Murrell, 84, of Elm Mott, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 20, 2023.
Visitation: 5 to 7PM Thursday, March 30 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Services: 1PM Friday, March 31 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Evans Chapel in Perry.
Mrs. Doris Lee (Haliburton) Murrell, the daughter of the late Richard & Letha Haliburton was born March 28, 1938 in Elm Mott. Doris was the first born of six siblings; she was a daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She attended Chalk Bluff Elementary and graduated from Dunbar High School in West. Doris also attended McLennan Community College where she earned certifications for Nurse’s Aide and Early Childhood Education.
She married Nathaniel Murrell, Sr. on March 21, 1958. To this union, seven children were born.
Sis. Murrell loved God and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was affiliated with Bush Chapel CPCA, Good Samaritan Baptist Church, Love Walk Baptist Church, and New Horizon Baptist Church. During her Christian journey she held offices such as President of Mission, Sunday School Teacher, Pastor’s Aide President, and Kitchen and Decorating Committee Chairs.
In addition to spending time with the Lord during her daily “me time”, Doris worked and volunteered with Caritas of Waco, worked as an Election Judge, and held the positions of Vice President and Treasurer for the Dunbar Reunion Alumni Association.
She loved making tea cakes, canning pickles, sewing, watching Wheel of Fortune, and jamming to the oldies.
Her life, love, and legacy will live on in the cherished memories of her family, extended family, friends, classmates, former colleagues, and fellow parishioners.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; husband; sister-in-laws, Ruby Howlett, Clarsia Vaughns, Earline Jones, Leeanna Howlett, Dora Taylor, daughter, Eleanor “Suzette”; daughter-in-law, Lora Murrell; and granddaughter, Corajia “Cocoa” Joyner.
Survivors include her children, Nathaniel Murrell, Nathan (Sherry) Murrell, Natalie Turner, Arnetra (Thurman) Watson, Edwin (Patricia) Murrell, Arnissa (Jude) Amadi, and Reginald Jackson; sisters, Archie Durham, Bobbie Mitchell, Wanda Hall, Bettie Haliburton, Florine Haliburton, and Lorine Benn; twenty-three grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; cousins; and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge a special Thank You to Cedar Hill Health Care Center and Three Oaks Hospice in Waxahachie.

Well, well, well! I don’t even know where to start when it come to my second mama ,”SIS DORIS MURRELL!” I DO KNOW THAT SHE WAS A DEDICATED CHILD OF GOD! I know that she loved all of her children, grand children, nieces, nephews, in laws, her pastor and I could go on and on. “I DO KNOW THAT SHE LOVED THE PRAYER LINE, ME, MY HUSBAND AND ALL OF THE PRAYER LINE MEMBERS!” Sis Doris was a one of a kind like no other, she never met a stranger that she could not talk to…………… I will miss our visits over there on Murrell Lane, I’ll miss our lunch dates where we talked about everything that we could think of. .”I’LL JUST PLAIN MISS HER. SOMETIMES OUR CONVERSATIONS WERE VERY LONG AND OTHER TIMES THEY WERE MEDIOCRE… To Nell and the other family members, she loved all of you tremendously. “LORD DID SHE LOVE COCO!” I had not met CoCo until I went to her beautiful services on Saturday, guess what????????? She was everything that Sis Doris said that she was, it was so befitting they left this earth together………….God has a way of doing things……… Well, I could talk all day and night about my second mom, but I guess I’ll stop…………I’ll never stop loving her and she will be embedded in my heart forever……. “SIS DORIS MURRELL, YOU , COCO, AND BROTHER MURRELL WALK OUT INTO THE SUNSET TOGETHER YOU’RE ALL WHE THE LORD WANT YOU ALL TO BE………..TRAVEL THOSE STREETS OF GOLD AND JUST WALK AROUND HEAVEN ALL DAY!” I LOVE YOU AMD MISS YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH….
