Dorothy was born the only child to Herschel Napoleon Scott, Sr. and Willie Jean Edwards, May 11, 1949. Being raised as the only female amongst male cousins, Dorothy was treated and was truly the family princess. She graduated from Carver High School and went on to attend and graduate from Paul Quinn College. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She loved her church and was deeply involved, serving as an Usher and on the Culinary Department and the Mission Society. She worked for over 30 years for Safeway in the Customer Service Center, retiring in the late 1980’s.
Dorothy was known to friends and family to be an avid shopper, even to the point of being called a “Professional Shopper”. She had a “sassy” outward personality and loved to be dressed up and “blingy”. Dorothy also found great joy in caring for her plants, learning computers in a class she took and crocheting. She found great joy in having late night phone calls with friends. Never having children of her own, Dorothy loved her four legged friends like children. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Herschel Scott, Sr.; her mother, Willie Jean Edwards; half-sisters, Bonnie Anderson and Detria Harper; and her beloved cat, Pinky and dog, Fritzy.
Dorothy is survived by her half-siblings, Rev. Sandra Powell and husband Rev. Lawrence Powell, Janice Toney and husband James, Wenda Long and husband Eddie, Herschel N. Scott, Jr. and Jimmy Moore; uncle, Bob Wallace Edwards, aunt, Rosie Lee Edwards; best friend of over 40 years, Miltonee Clater and husband Freddie; Miltonee’s daughters, of which she considered to be her nieces, Imani Johnson and husband Ronald, Natasha Hawkins and husband Youree and Yolanda Johnson; a host of cousins and other loving family members; and her beloved four legged companions, Dakota and Bailey.
Memorial donations in Dorothy’s memory should be sent to Lake Shore Funeral Home.

The team at Reed’s Flowers send our deepest condolences to your family at this difficult time.
To Dorothy’s family. Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss, 68 years old is to young to pass, I lost my Dad at the age of 74 and thought that was to young. I can see how much she loved her family and friends. I know how extremely painful it is to loose someone close to us, but the comfort that I received from God’s word was so helpful, because it gave me a hope. Jesus’ words at John 5:28+29 and Isaiah 25:8 were so comforting to me. Please read them yourself to see why .
I had the pleasure of working with “Dot” at Safeway while I was in high school until I graduated Baylor in 1988. We worked together 7 years. She was such a great person and truly a joy to be around. She had a quick wit and was fun to spar with on occasions. I bumped into her on a few occasions over the years and it was like she never aged. It was always fun to catch up with Dot and I will truly miss those times. God Bless. Luther Fore
