I really loved Doug. I worked with him at TSB for many years and we became friends. I’m so sorry that he died, and so young. I’m really shocked and sad.
He was a legend at TSBVI. My dearest friends loved him; I was always quite sad and left out that I never knew him. Anyone that can create that much loyalty in his path must have great gifts.
I would like to send my sincere condolences to Douglas Randel’s family and friends.
I met and started working with Douglas at the Austin State Hospital in the 70’s. I’m 2 yrs older than Douglas. We worked together again at the Texas School for the Blind in the 80’s and 90’s. He was well liked by the staff and students. There are other staff still at the school who also remember Douglas and have good memories.
I lived with Douglas and his girlfriend Michelle for about two yrs in the late 70’s.We had a nice house in central Austin.I remember my 1st punk rock show with Douglas. That was when he and Michelle lived right behind Raul’s, close to UT. We were just kids and had some good times. There were some really good times.
We stayed friends but kind of went different paths. Different directions. He then move out of town. That’s the last time I heard of him until now.
I hope his life was a good one. I will never forget that laugh and smile. I will always call him a friend. He was so young. RIP Douglas.
