Edith Hazel (Helen) Putman Johnson of Lacy-Lakeview entered heaven on Thursday August 5, 2010. Visitation will be held Sunday August 8th at 6-8pm at Lake Shore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday August 9th at 10 am at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Randall Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Edith was born at home on a small farm in Sutter County, California, the fifth child of the seven children born to Grover & Ruth Putman. She attended a one-room country grammar school and graduated from Live Oak High School and later graduated from Chico State College in California with a degree in education. She married Joe Webb Johnson, a Texas military man, and moved to Texas in 1953. Edith was an elementary teacher in California and Texas for 36 years and retired from Connally ISD in 1991 to spend more time with her grandchildren.

The joys in her life included activities with her daughters and her grandchildren. She was always ready to go when the phone rang and attended many dance recitals, sport events, music programs, and family vacations. She loved to travel with family or groups such as, the Senior Adult Ministry of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She also made many trips over the years to visit her California family.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Don Putman and Harold Putman, and sister, Ruth Cox.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruthann McKern and husband Kent, of Waco, Texas, and JoEllen Skinner and husband Mike, of Axtell, Texas; a sister Jane Helm, of Yuba City, California; two brothers, Jim Putman of Marysville, California, and Jack Putman and wife Jean, of Fairfield, California; five grandchildren, Brady, Tyler, and Micah Skinner, of Axtell, Texas, and Holly DeHaan and Christy Mckern, of Waco, Texas. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Dale, Trent, Gary, Jeff, and Joey Putman, Peggy Reeves, Stan and Steven Helm, Sandra Ross, Julie Hunter, Jan Putman.

Pallbearers will be Mike Skinner, Micah Skinner, Tyler Skinner, Brady Skinner, Kent McKern, and Pat McKern.
