On December 04, 1965, a beautiful, radiant baby girl was welcomed into the world by her loving parents, Arthur and Allie Hamilton in Waco, Texas. From the very beginning, Edna’s presence brought joy and warmth, laying the foundation for the remarkable life she would lead. She grew up in Waco with her nine siblings, forming close familial bonds that would last a lifetime.

Edna was deeply rooted in her faith. Her faith journey was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and providing strength through all her endeavors. She joined True Vine Baptist Church at an early age, where she nurtured her spirituality. Her deepening faith and desire to serve led her to join Carver Park Baptist Church where she was an Ordained Minister, a member of the Prayer Team, and a leader. Edna not only preached but she also mentored and inspired others. Edna’s unwavering faith was a source of comfort and guidance throughout her life, influencing every aspect of her personal and professional journey.

Becoming a mother to Dennis Gibson II and Deniko Gibson was one of the greatest joys in Edna Dianne Gibson’s life, a role she embraced with boundless love and dedication. Edna’s love for her sons was evident in every aspect of her life; she nurtured them with care, supported their dreams, and instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and faith. Her love for Dennis and Deniko was the driving force behind her strength and resilience, and her legacy as a devoted mother will forever be cherished in their hearts.

She graduated with the Class of 1984 from Jefferson Moore High School. During her high school years, Edna was known for her academic diligence and her kind-hearted nature, qualities that endeared her to both her peers and teachers. While in high school, Edna knew she wanted to be a nurse. She won accolades for her creation of “Choice or Chance”, a game about birth defects.

Edna went on to further her education with a diverse array of degrees in nursing. She started her nursing career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She transitioned to a Registered Nurse by earning an Associates of Applied Science in Nursing Degree. Edna completed her nursing education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Texas A&M University-Central Texas. She garnered numerous accolades, including membership in the National Scholars Honor Society, Presidential Scholar, and the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She was a member of the All-Texas Academic Team and the All-USA Academic Team. Her academic achievements were completed by scholarships such as the Black/Hispanic Scholarship and the Private Donor Scholarship.

Her journey in nursing was marked by an extraordinary dedication to caring for the elderly, a calling she embraced with her whole heart. Edna was more than just a nurse; she was a b1eacon of compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. Her love and passion for nursing were evident in every interaction, every decision, and every act of care she provided. She truly embodied the essence of what it means to be a nurse. She worked as Nurse Manager at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) Community Living Center. Colleagues fondly remember her infectious smile, unwavering optimism, and boundless energy. She inspired her team to strive for the highest standards of care, always reminding us that our work was not just a job, but a mission to serve those who had served our country.

Edna peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends.
