Etoile “Sissie” Boswell Loftin, 92, of Lacy Lakeview, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10AM Monday, January 8th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellmead, with The Rev. Don Loftin as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Rosary and Visitation: The Holy Rosary will be recited 3PM Sunday, January 7th with visitation following until 5PM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.

Etoile was born on Christmas Day in 1925 in Sour Lake to William and Marion (Carroll) Boswell. She started 1st Grade with twenty other children, one of which was a young boy named Don Loftin. They began dating their junior year of high school, embarking on a long lasting relationship. Sissie was a star in the band and graduated from Sour Lake H.S. in May 1943. On December 29, 1946, Sissie and Don were married at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sour Lake.

Sissie had a great devotion to her Catholic faith with Jesus as the center of her life. She served as a volunteer for different organizations such as Lighthouse for the Blind and Meals on Wheels, loving her neighbor in every way. Sissie deeply loved her husband of seventy-one years, her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandkids and was a rock for the family throughout her life. She enjoyed her boys’ sporting events and extracurricular activities. She had a large influence on her son Don becoming an ordained priest in the Catholic Church. She was faithful in saying the Rosary at least three times a day and to her unceasing prayer for her family, community, country, and all those suffering.

She enjoyed looking out her big window at the lake and at the birds she fed with seeds and sugar water. She loved cooking and feeding her family and anyone who came to her house. She could make a 5-star meal from any variety of ingredients, which helped during the early years of her marriage. She loved gardening and could grow anything from a twig. Her grand kids were a big part of her life. Her eyes lit up every time they were mentioned or came to visit. She was so proud of them and their great accomplishments and successes but especially of their kindness and consideration. Sissie was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and always looked forward to the start of the new season.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William Boswell and wife LaVerne, Carroll Boswell and wife Bea, and Jon Boswell.

Survivors include husband of 71 years, Donald H. Loftin of Lacy Lakeview; sons, Fr. Don Loftin of Lago Vista, Tim Loftin and wife Glenna of Aledo, and Shane Loftin and wife Diana of Lacy Lakeview; grandchildren, Lance and wife Megan, Savannah, Tori, Cole and wife Erica, Hannah, and Haley; sisters, Marie Alice Laird and husband Bo of Houston, and Betty Baskett of Wylie; sister-in-law, Rosina Boswell of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge a special Thank You to Tomas Cardoza and his family, who have done so much for Sissie and Don the last few years. Tomas has been a special comfort to them and always has been there for them when they needed help, no matter the time of day.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
