Eugene Gilbert, 87, of Leroy, passed away into the arms of The Lord on Monday, July 1, 2013, on his 47th Wedding Anniversary, with his beloved wife at his side. Funeral services are scheduled for 10am Monday, July 8, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Andrew Collins officiating. Eugene was born to Lillie Mae (Richmond) and Gene Gilbert on October 23, 1925. He married the love of his life, Ersie Mae Edwards on July 1, 1966 at the McLennan County Courthouse. Throughout his working years, Eugene was a bus driver, cab driver, and an expert shoe shine. He was the last living member of the Stars of Harmony Quartet, and in their heyday, they performed shows throughout Texas. Eugene will be remembered as the life of the party! He had a deep, booming voice for a man of small stature, and his singing voice was heavenly. Eugene enjoyed playing pool, dominoes, singing, and sharing stories.

He is survived by his wife; three sons; 3 step-sons; 1 step-daughter; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
Mr. Gilbert’s family would like to send a special thanks to Tracie Williams and the Texas Home Health Hospice team, Felicia Davis with Texas Home Health, Friends for Life, Journey’s Christian Church in China Spring, Roadrunner Export Motorcycle Club, Reverend Lacey Williams, Lake Shore Funeral Home, as well as friends and the community of Leroy.
