George was born on September 27, 1956 in Waco TX to George Hazlett and Faye Nell Long. He graduated from Waco High School in 1975 and attended Texas State Technical College where he received his Associate Degree in electrical power technology. He worked for IBM 40 years as a Customer Engineer; retiring in 2020. George met his future wife, Pam Herring, in 1980. They married October 18, 1986 and had three wonderful children. George and Pam were not only partners in life but also partners in business as in 1996, they opened George’s Timberhouse in Lacy Lakeview, where it is still in operation today. After retirement, George’s favorite pastime was working on his farm-driving his tractor, baling hay and raising cattle, including his pet longhorn, Gus. His family was the most important part of George’s life and he loved being surrounded by loved ones and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Faye Nell Long, and brother, Surry Long.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Long; daughter, Jessica Koenig and husband, Samuel Koenig; son, George Long III and wife, Alicia Long; son, Harrison Long; sister, Julie Long; and grand children, Nicholas Koenig, George Long IV, Samuel Koenig, Adelaide Long, and Koen Koenig.

In lieu of flowers donations, may be made in George’s honor to the American Heart Association.

George was one of my CE’s at Scott & White. I later ran into him at Texas Farm Bureau. He was a hoot. Very professional and one of the best that I have ever seen. I am shocked that he is no longer with us. I will miss you and your wit.

  8. Pam & family,

We are truly so broken hearted about George’s passing. There are absolutely no words that will make any of this better. We can only hope that the wonderful memories you all have of him will bring a smile to your face and put a warmth in your heart when you need it most. We love you all and pray for strength and comfort.
    God Bless,

I worked with George many years ago when I was a computer tech and Texas Farm Bureau and George was our customer engineer with IBM. We had many conversations and laughs back in those days. George always had a smile and a hello when I worked with him. I saw him last around 6 years ago and the smile and sense of humor was still there. I’m saddened by this news but I know George is now in a better place. He will be missed.

  11. George and my brother were friends and while George and I did not associate much the times I was around him and Pam he really left an impression on me. Pam so sorry for your loss I can still remember some of the stories even my mother told about George. God Bless

Words of sympathy feel inadequate in expressing grief and sorrow for a loss so great. We are still in shock from the news. Uncle George was a caring, kind, family oriented, and such a funny guy. He will greatly be missed.
Sending a warm embrace and all our love during this sad time. Wishing you all peace and comfort in these difficult days. We love you all!

  14. I worked with George many years so sorry for your loss.

  16. Jessica, I am so sorry for your loss! I know your dad was your rock. I never met him but I feel this poem by Edwin Arlington Robinson called ‘A Happy Man’ seems to fit:
    “Children that I leave behind,
    And their children, all were kind;
Near to them and to my wife,
I was happy all my life”

    All my love,
    Kate aka Senora Patton ♥️

Oh Kate “Señora Patton” thank you so much for your kind words and support and yes he was everything to us!! The poem is beyond perfect thank you so much!

George has been a wonderful neighbor. I remember when he and Pam moved the old 2 story house by truck down roads and across pastures to their property where they began fixing and remodeling it, a herculean task. George was a man of many skills, and he and Pam made that house beautiful and made it a lovely home to raise children. I know you will see your dear husband and father everywhere in all the improvements he put himself into. He left a wonderful legacy of love. Gail Blanpied

  18. There are some many things I can say about my father in law. He was great man and I was blessed to have him in my life for 15 years. He always thought of me as part of the family. I know my husband is going to hurt for a awhile and my kids didn’t get enough time with Papa. But we will keep him alive through his kids and grandkids. We will miss you so much Dad. We love you

George was our CE at Texas Farm Bureau for many years. He was a professional, but always performed his duties with a personal touch. He always had a smile and good natured ‘debates’ about kids and life in general, with a twinkle in his eye. He always talked about Pam and his kids, and although I never met them, I knew he loved them BIG! My condolences to your family as you carry on. May God bless you and give you strength.

  24. My prayers for the Long family and friends. George was a great person, fun and hard worker. I knew George as our IBM service representative who was called out numerous times to work on the IBM equipment at Baylor Computation Center. He will be greatly missed.!!!

  25. You have my prayers and condolences for your loss. I remember George helping us with IBM issues from many years ago. He was always friendly and affable. May God be with you and comfort you at this most difficult time.
