Master Sergeant Gomez, known affectionately to most military friends as “Gomez”, Waco friends called him “Gilbert” and his family as “Berto”. He was born in Guayabota, Yabucoa, Puerto Rico to Andres Gomez Diaz and Sofia Baez Gonzalez, the oldest of 11. He enlisted in the US Army after graduating from Anna Roque High in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Gilberto Gomez carried his Cross and was rewarded, by his Savior, with his angels’ wings on Nov. 27, 2021. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021, 2-6 PM, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be held Monday, December 6, 2021, 1PM, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Over his 33 ½ year career, he served in many capacities and traveled all over the world. He loved his career in the military and would have gone back at any time. His heart was always to serve. He was a loving husband, father and friend; always a gentleman, a protector and provider. He had a giving and compassionate spirit and was loved by so many. Not only was he kind and strong, but he was generous, funny, sensitive, and loving.
He lived his absolute best life and what’s waiting for him is promised to be even better.
His love and wisdom will be carried by generations of his family. He will be terribly missed and always remembered.
Preceded in death by his parents, Andres Gomez and Sofia Baez.

Print Obituary & Condolences
To the Gomez family, extended family and friends. It is always difficult when a loved one leaves this earth, but so thankful to Our Lord Heavenly Father through the power of our Saviour Jesus, we will see them again. May the great memories keep your hearts joyful. Praying God’s peace to embrace everyone during this time. Love, hugs, and kisses.
A wonderful person to know, we worked together for several years and he was a joy to work with, he will be missed by all who knew him. REST IN PEACE FRIEND.
Mr. Gilbert (aka Jose’s dad) was always kind, encouraging, educational/informational, fatherly, humorous, and fun. He definitely made Purvis, Mississippi much more interesting for me 🙂 it was very obvious how much he loved his children, his family, and how much he desired their presence/proximity.
From Bo, the huge parrot, to the rain stick, his stories about family, about a helpful stranger that just disappeared, his journey from Puerto Rico to mainland USA, he always had that teacher quality with a spark of humor at just the right moments. One sweet memory was a late night visit, he had prepared a breakfast burrito meal after senior prom, I honestly don’t know anyone whose parents did that. Love your sweet family, always.
