Glynn R. Tyus Sr., 77, of Waco passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008, at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at Lake Shore Funeral Shore Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Waco, TX, with Rev. Joe Tyus officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 9. A Video Life Tribute will be shown at the visitation and service.
Glynn R. Tyus Sr. was born July 23, 1930 in Mexia, Tx., to Walter Atlee Tyus, and Mattie Bell (Fails) Tyus. He married Berma Roe Dixon on June 9, 1950 in Kilgore TX and had two children, Linda Gail Tyus and Glynn R. Tyus Jr. His career included a number of years in the sheet metal business and he finally retired after 27 years of Civil Service at Ft. Hood Tx. He also enjoyed working on their ranch in Fairfield, TX for many years. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He always put his family first and was loved by many. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Myrtle (Tyus) Rinehart; bothers Vernon, Travis, W. L. and Haynie Tyus.
Survivors include wife of 58 years, Berma Roe Tyus of Waco; daughter Gail Tyus of Dickinson; son Glynn Jr and wife Lisa of Lorena; grandchildren, Jana and husband Chris Schaeffer of Keller, and Katie Tyus of Lorena; sister Faye Jackson of Selman City; sister-in-laws Linny and husband Louis Steenken of Beeville, Mary and husband Garland Neal of Waco and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Greg Carter, Mark Cepak, Chris Montez, Robert Russell, Chris Schaeffer, and Joe Tyus. Honorary Pallbearers will be nephews Vernon Tyus Jr., Bob Tyus, Billy Jack Tyus, Roger Jackson, and James Tyus.
Memorials may be made to Lacy-Lakeview Fire Department.
