“Just a Girl”

Harmony Flanigan, affectionately known as “Tadpole,” was born on June 28, 2006, in the quaint town of Breese, Illinois to Robin and Sean Flanigan. Before relocating to Yuma, AZ in 2008 where her father, Sean, was stationed for the Marine Corps she was cared for by many family members who loved and adored her. Her grandparents watched her often and spoiled her at every opportunity. She also spent time at her Aunt Alisa’s with her cousins Michael and KJ. Her cousin Tracy ensured her first birthday party was perfect.

Harmony’s intelligence presented at a young age. She was talking at 10 months and potty trained before she was two. Because of her, the theme song of Caillou is imprinted in our memories. Harmony’s adventurous spirit showed early and at the age of 2 she got out of the house to “go play at the park with the kitty”. Harmony showed an early love for cats and found solace in her cat, Theo.

In 2010, Harmony’s brother was born. She picked out his name Deaglan from a list of names when asked what we should name him. From the beginning, she did everything she could to make him feel better. She would put on shows when he was sick and as he got older would bring him his favorite foods. She always told her mother, “Mom, if something happens to you, I will ensure Deaglan is taken care of”.

From a young age, Harmony loved to color and draw. We had to hide markers and ink pens because she drew on the kitchen cabinets, couch and many other areas. In 2014, she was recognized by Rep. Paul Gosar at the Boys and Girls Club as the best Easter Card Contest Winner. In May of 2019, Harmony’s creativeness helped the Odyssey of the Mind team compete at Nationals in Michigan.

Harmony enjoyed spending time with family during the holidays. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She enjoyed helping put up the Christmas tree while dancing to Christmas tunes, placing her special ornaments and most of all putting the angel on top of the tree. Every birthday she made a homemade strawberry cake.

While living in Yuma, Harmony loved to go off-roading, horseback riding, hiking, swimming, boating, playing basketball, video games, and watching anime. Harmony loved Barbie’s and built a Barbie Lego city. Her favorite movie was Avatar, and she named her Blue Honda Civic Neytiri. Harmony also loved Star Wars and blinged everything out in Grogu. Harmony built a Lego Grogu with her cousin Fay that she keeps displayed. If asked, Harmony would tell you her spirit animal is a wolf. Like her, they symbolize intelligence, loyalty, protectiveness, teamwork and wildness. Since kindergarten, Harmony’s dream destination was to see Paris. It was well known that Harmony’s all-time favorite person was her mother, Robin. Harmony’s favorite pastime with her dad was Harmony Wednesday’s.

In 2021, Harmony and her family moved to Texas to be closer to family. She attended Midway High School and became part of JROTC. Harmony was very tenacious and hard-working. She graduated with honors from McLennan Community College (MCC) with an associate’s in applied science (AAS) two weeks prior to her Midway High School Graduation. During her high school years, she was part of JROTC and served as the XO her senior year. She won the MOAA JROTC Award for her outstanding citizenship, personal responsibility, and service to the community. She also won the Expert Marksmanship Badge. She was set to attend Texas A&M University to obtain her bachelor’s in science and then pursue a career in the United States Air Force as an Officer and become a Clinical Geneticist. Her overall dream was to help individual’s suffering from genetic and autoimmune disorders. At the time of her passing, Harmony worked at the lab at MCC, Le Dannie Fine Jewelers, and Dominos.

Last weekend, Harmony competed in her first beauty pageant, the National American Miss (NAM), and placed in the top 25 out of 150 contestants. She felt this was an outstanding accomplishment being her first pageant and not doing any of the extras. Harmony loved to have her hair and makeup done by her favorite aunt, “Aunt Turkey.” Harmony’s younger cousin Viola wants to be in beauty pageants just like Harmony.

Harmony passed away on June 22, 2024 (6 days before her 18th birthday). Before her passing, a friend and her were fishing and they caught 13 catfish. Harmony was primarily pescatarian and loved eating seafood. However, she would not pass up an opportunity to eat nachos.

Harmony had an adventurous spirit and loved hanging out with her best friend group, “The OG’s”. Together they would swim, hang around bonfires, hike, work on/ride dirt bikes and motorcycles and take late night rides blasting their favorite tunes. She loved cars and hoped to build a cherry red LS powered Monster Miata.

Harmony’s laughter and smile was contagious. She sought to encourage others to always be the best they could be. She has left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we gather to honor Harmony’s life and legacy, let us celebrate the profound impact she made on all our lives and the countless memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Joe Moss, and Glenn Flanigan.

Survivors include her parents, Sean and Robin Flanigan; brother, Deaglan Flanigan; grandmothers, Tina Johnson, Tami McPherson, and Judy Moss; aunts, “Turkey” Krystal Wallace, and Alisa McPherson; uncles, Duane McPherson, and Fredrick Michael Flanigan; cousins, Fay Wallace, Viola Wallace, Michael Baker, KJ Baker, Mikayla Baker, Asher Flanigan, and Emmit McPherson; and numerous other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Midway ISD – Marine Corps JROTC. CLICK HERE to donate in memory of Harmony. “We have had multiple people reach out and ask about contributions. As a family, we have decided to ask for donations to help support the Midway MCJROTC progam. This program and its directors had a profound impact on Harmony. We have created the Harmony Flanigan Memorial Fund in her name. Please send all contributions to the attached fund. We are also asking, in lieu of flowers, please make a similar donation.”

Harmony was a sweet friend of mine from Sophomore to Senior year at Midway High School and Midway Horizons campus. We would always do our math homework together, play games, and goof off. She was so beautiful. I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss of a wonderful person.

    Dear Flanigan family,
While I didn’t know Flanigan too well, I was in ROTC and respected her. She had big ideas for the company and the people in it. She made sure it was known that she was a safe place to go if anyone needed help.
She was a wonderful person, and through the few conversations we had, I wanted to get to know her more.
I hope you find solace, and while the pain of her passing will never fade, that you treasure and hold onto the joyous memories and moments that you had with Flanigan.

  18. Steve & Morrisa

So many kind words and all so true of our Harmony. As others have said, words are inadequate to express what is in our hearts. The loss is so huge…and there is no answer to the “WHY?” There is tumult in our hearts and a desire to make it all better, but life just doesn’t work that way. Grieving is a process with no due date as to when it will end, because it never completely does. Grief can tear at a family so, cling to one another for support, draw closer not apart. We will continue praying for each of you and sending along hugs to dad, mom and Deaglan. We love you all so very much.

  19. I met Harmony at MHS when I would either sign her in or out of school.
She was always so friendly and had something positive to say .it breaks my heart that she is gone before she could take on the world with her smile and positivity.
    My condolences to the family.

    With love, the Saucedo family

I’ve been trying to find the right words and I’m at a loss so I’ll simply say she sounds like such a wonderful young lady regret never meeting her, I’m praying for you at this most difficult time and know she’s at peace and will be forever young. God bless you

  24. My condolences to the Flanagan family. Although I didn’t know her as well as some of my ROTC friends did, every interaction with her was truely a blessing. From our senior picnic, laying on the field and talking about the future or simply complimenting each others dresses at ROTC events. She would always be the person to shed some light on a temporary situation. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and the friends we shared throughout high school.
