Jacob was born May 1, 1995. Jacob’s precious life completed 5 generations on both his father’s maternal and paternal family. It was God’s way of letting us all know just how special and unique Jacob Cole would be. Even as an infant he slept fast through the night at a early age. Jacob, as a young boy, could be found at the hip of his Mamma. He was and still is a Mamma’s boy. Being a Mamma’s boy did not stop the love he had for the outdoors, and being carried on his Dad’s back through the woods to their favorite hunting spots. He did, however, often complain it was still dark and entirely too cold. Jacob thought he was cowboy or true outdoors man with his gold tipped boots. He literally wore the soles out of those boots, calling himself “Jacob Ward Man with Sword”.
A prideful Axtell Longhorn from Kindergarten to High School Graduation in 2013. It is during that time that Jacob met friends as a Axtell Longhorn with Tyler, David, Garrett, JoJo and Tye and those friendships would turn into family, all brothers with different mothers. Jacob played baseball as a youngster on South 9th Street in Axtell, that was until the love of football took over. He enjoyed Friday Night Lights and all of the bear crawls, towel pushes and even the blood, sweat and tears it brought. The 3-point stance brought him great satisfaction to “pancake” somebody!! Hearing “#64-Skains with the tackle” over the stadium speaker was his first true love, until he met Michelle Tucker, the mother of his most precious gifts Ava Marie and Remington Cole.
Jacob enlisted in the United States Army. It was his dream to become a Man of Honor, a provider for his family and if that took the ultimate sacrifice for his country, he did not mind at all. Sadly, his time as a soldier did not last as long as he expected. While in basic training, Jacob learned that he had a leaky heart valve that required a major and urgent surgery. His medical condition would cost him his life as a soldier, he was devastated.
In 2014, he became the proud father of Ava Marie Skains and in 2016 the proud father of Remington Cole Skains. Jacob loved his children with all his heart and soul. Jacob’s heart was pure. He loved to help people and he loved to make people feel special. He did countless things for his friends, family and people he did not even know. Being around Jacob, you were most definitely going to laugh. He always had a joke or did something that would make you laugh until you cried. He had a slight act for aggravation – do not leave your nose nostrils open, or Jacob would most definitely have his finger in it. He loved music, all music, and knew every single word.
To know Jacob was to love him. His selfless acts of kindness. His ability to encourage people for the better. His loyalty as a friend is only some of the best qualities about him.
Jacob is survived by his kids, Ava Marie and Remington Cole; parents, Kandi Chapman and Danny Skains; stepmother, Christy Skains; siblings, Kalob, Gaige, Chelsie, Chase and Chelsey; aunts and uncles, Terri Pickles and husband James, Billy “Bubba” Eaton and wife Tina, and Jim Skains and wife Anna; grandparents, Danny and Margaret Skains, Denise and Joe Sasser and Billy Jack Eaton; and Great Memaw Barbara Williams and her husband Willie. Jacob was preceded in death by his stepdad, Terry Chapman, grandparents, Martha Eaton and Threasa Smith.
Place of Service: Oakwood Cemetery , 2124 S.5th St.; Waco, TX 76706

Jacob I loved being your Aunt Lissa for the past 10 years. Me and your uncle James have always loved you and yours as our own. We will miss you dearly but it is comforting knowing that you’re in the arms of our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST
What a beautifully written tribute for a young man that is obviously loved so very much. He may not have been able to complete his military career, but it sounds like he’s still a hero indeed! We pray that on the toughest days you all remember his kindness, his love, his smile, and that it brings you a sense of comfort and peace.
With our heartfelt condolences,
Robert & Vicki Olivo
