James Curtis Ford, 73, of Waco, formerly of Mart, passed away July 19, 2013, in a Waco hospital after a long illness. There will be no service, with cremains to be scattered in west Texas.

Curtis was born May 23, 1940, in Mart, and grew up here, graduating from Mart High School in 1958. He earned a bachelor of science degree in 1965 from Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, where he met and married RexAnn Palmer. To this union two daughters, Melissa Moore and Melodi Williams, were born. He coached football at Gordon, Saginaw, and later at Whitney before moving to Houston for employment with Pan American Airlines.

In Houston, he married Sherilyn Hudman and they had a son. He later moved back to Mart with his son and went to work for Read’s Food Store and The Mart Herald, before taking employment with Mars Candy Company in Waco where he worked until retirement in 1997. He had also worked at Battle Lake Golf Course in Mart and Lake Waco Golf Course in Waco. He was a Baptist.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie C. and CoNett (Aycock) Ford; and a sister, Sandra Sue Ford.

Survivors include a son, Brien Curtis Ford of Waco; one granddaughter, Madison Grace Ford of Waco; three sisters, Pamela Sellman and husband, John, of Mart, Karen Lee and husband, Kermit, of Gatesville, and Dianna Davenport and husband, Jerry, of Rowlett; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

    So many fond memories of living next door and playing cops and robbers, and putting on plays with James Curtis, Pam, Charles Bramlett and others. I am saddened by his passing and pray for his family.
