Jim I. Whittaker, 90, of Waco, passed away Monday, June 22nd at a local nursing center. Services will be 10AM Friday, June 26th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harley Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at Mexia City Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8PM Thursday, June 25th at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Jim was born May 28, 1919 to Arthur and Bell Whittaker. Jim was a hard worker; first working from farm to farm. After serving with the U.S. Navy, he attended welding school in Mexia. Later he worked at the textile mill in Mexia for several years. He then worked at General Tire for 30 years, until his retirement in 1980. He then worked at several Post Offices in his retirement.

Jim was a very special person. When my grandfather was in the nursing home years ago he would go out on different days and lead in a singing time. My grandfather loved to sing. He looked forward to those days. My dad worked with Jim at General Tire and then we’ve had a chance to visit with him at Beacon Hill. He will definitely be missed but you know as well as I know his goal was always to be with his heavenly father. What a great reunion that must be today. Our prayers and sympathy go out to the family.
