John David Rowell, Sr., 82, of Ross, formerly of Marlin, passed away October 21, 2019.
Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24 at Lake Shore Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 25, at Lake Shore Funeral Home.
John was born September 22, 1937 in Marlin to Jessie Lee Rowell and Eunice Compton Rowell. He graduated from Marlin High School in 1957. He married Carolyn Bussey in 1958 in Marlin where they lived until 1996 when they then moved to the Ross area. John worked for Pilgrim’s Pride Turkey Plant in Waco which later became Cargill Foods. He was a maintenance supervisor until his retirement. He then spent time to enjoy raising Boer goats for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Ross; three sons, Johnny Jr. of Ross, Ronnie and wife, Cindy of Douglass and Lance and wife, Jennifer of Austin; daughter, Nancy and husband, Martin Soto of Marlin; eight grandchildren, Joshua Rowell and wife, Jordan of Flower Mound, Kayla Hamilton and husband Chris of Groesbeck, Jessica Byrd and husband, Adam of Douglass, Stephanie Jackson and husband, Jacob of Douglass, Ronnie Rowell, Jr., Cameron Rowell and Wyatt Rowell all of Austin and Mia Soto of Marlin; 13 great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hunter Hamilton, Hannah, Madyson and Prezley Byrd, Carlee, Aubree, Cash and Addalynn Rowell, Noah and Avery Jackson and Jase and Jessa Rowell. John is also survived by two sisters, Opal Cooper and her husband, Johnny and Dorothy Vaughn all of Marlin; one sister-in-law, Myrtle West of Pasadena; brother-in-law, Marshall George of Pasadena; special daughter, Cecil Shook Nelson of China Spring; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
