John Terrell Falkenbury, II, 73, of Clifton, passed away Thursday, February 20th at a Clifton hospital.
John was born February 25, 1940 in Cleburne to Robert Frederick and Ada Margaret (Wilkinson) Falkenbury.
John displayed an early aptitude and love of the sciences, volunteering and later working for the Ft. Worth Children’s Museum from the age of 11 until after graduation from Arlington Heights High School. In 1957, while attending high school, he received a Gold and Silver Medal Award from the National Science Fair.
After the outbreak of the Vietnam War, John proudly served in the United States Navy from November 1961 through August 1965.He sailed on the USS Kitty Hawk. He later served his country in the United States Coast Guard from June 1974 through June 1978.
John received his Bachelor of Arts degree in March 1969 and Master of Science degree in Biology in December 1970 from Central Washington State University.
After several careers, including his time at the city of Ft. Worth Public Health Department as Water Quality Coordinator and Health Inspector from 1986 through 1990, John began working for Texas State Technical College, Waco.
He joined the staff in February 1995 as a Senior Instructor of Biology. John was a dedicated educator, always willing to "go the extra mile" for his students. He retired from teaching in December 2010.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Roland Wilkinson Falkenbury and Robert Frederick Falkenbury.
He is survived by his niece, Catherine Bedford of Houston, her daughter Amanda Fox and husband Brandon of Spring, and son Ryan Bedford of Spring; niece, Susan Brown of New York City, NY and her daughter Iris Taylor Brown; a nephew, John T. Falkenbury of Richmond; and long time friend, Patty Caruthers of Clifton.
John was a kind, gentle man. He was beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.
Memorials in John’s memory may be made sent to any area animal shelter or the Salvation Army.
