Johnny R. Ashley, Sr., 76, of Waco, went to meet the Lord on Friday, December 13, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones, at Providence Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, December 17, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend Dr, Waco. Visitation is from 5-7pm, Monday, December 16, also at the funeral home. Johnny was born to William and Lera (Prince) Ashley on June 29, 1937, in Waco. He married Sandra Sweeney, and in September of this year they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Johnny worked as a machinist for 42 years, retiring from Marathon Aerospace. Johnny was known for his heart of gold, friendly smile, and he was the type of man who never met a stranger. In his lifetime, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, with a love for all animals, especially his dogs, most notably, Buddy. Johnny was an excellent husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed quality time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and youngest son, Billy Lucas.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; four sons, Johnny Alan and wife, Lisa, of Quitman, Johnny Ashley, Jr. and wife, Teresa, of Academy, Ben Lucas and wife, Shari, of Weatherford, and Jim Lucas and wife, Lisa of Midland; 16 grandkids; five great-grandkids; brother, Billy Ashley and wife, DD of Burnet; sister, Wanda L. Willis of Waco; and many other dear family members and friends.
Pallbearers are Dave William, Cole Lucas, Nick Lucas, Melvin Dotson Jr., Rodney Barnes, Mike Adams, Dustin Kelm, and Justin Grabenstein.
