Katherine Ann (Kay) Nitschke, age 70, passed away surrounded by her family on January 21, 2024.
She was born on June 27, 1953, to Angelo (Jimmie) & Altis Lora Demas, of Bellmead. She was the youngest daughter of seven siblings. As a child she enjoyed spending time with her brothers, sisters and cousins. She attended and graduated from La Vega High school in 1971, where she met the love of her life, Jimmie Nitschke. They married on November 14, 1971, and later welcomed their two daughters.
She enjoyed nights at the Heart O’ Texas speedway and weekend trips fishing in the rivers, lakes and off of the Texas coast, particularly Port O’ Conner. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR, rooting for anyone playing against the Dallas Cowboys, playing bingo, poker and other various card games while spending time with her family. She worked various jobs, some of which included Levi Stratus, Sam’s Club but her passion was working at her alma mater La Vega ISD where she worked in the cafeteria and later became the cafeteria manager at the HP Miles Campus where she retired after 20+ years of service.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Nitschke, her parents Angelo (Jimmie) and Altis Demas, brother Nicholas (Nicky) Demas, her in-laws R.H. and Bonnie Nitschke, brother-in-law Orville (Sonny) Chappell, grandson Kholton Pickens and great grandson Maddox Drummond.
She survived by her daughters Shelby & Sean Huffman of Lorena, Kasey & Jason Richardson of Axtell, her grandchildren Peyton & Michael Drummond Jr of Lorena, Bailei & Jimmie Braswell of Hewitt, Tylar Sargent of Waco, Tristyn & Colton Seeley of Leander. Taylor & Cody Hooper of Waco, Lacy Sargent-Johnson of Whitney and Tristean Huffman of Waco. Great grandchildren, Memphis & Rhett Drummond, Chandler Braswell, Leighton Sargent, Chloe & Kyle Hooper. Her brothers Johnnie Demas of McKinney, Terry Demas and wife Sandra of Speegleville and Joe Demas of Waco, sisters Cretee Nemmer of Colorado Springs and sister Jimmie (Ikie) Chappell of Waco, Brother-in-law Doug Nitschke and wife Carolyn of Robinson and Brother-in-law, Randy Nitschke of Waco, many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
Kay was beautiful, bright and a hard worker. She loved her husband and her family fiercely. She will be greatly missed by not only her family but by many friends, colleagues and neighbors.
The family would like to thank Community Care Hospice for their considerate and loving care in our time of need.
A “Celebration of Life” come and go gathering will be held, Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at Speegleville Baptist Church, 469 Speegle Road, Speegleville, Tx. The family will receive visitors from 4-7.
