Laura Rene (Bechtel) Coatney, 64, of Waco, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on May 28, 2024, in Waco, Texas.

A celebration of Rene’s life will be held at Journey Christian Community, 10424 China Spring Rd in Waco on, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Landon Collard officiating.

Laura known by family and friends as Rene was born January 12, 1960 in Yuma, Arizona. Rene was a military wife and had three children all over the world. She had her oldest daughter Michelle in Greenock, Scotland; her son Jesse in Pensacola, Florida; and her youngest daughter Lisa in San Diego, California. Rene loved her children and supported them in all their activities from drill team competitions, to wrestling meets, and band performances. After divorcing, Rene went back to school and got a degree in teaching special education. She has worked at many school districts in Southern California and finished her teaching career in Central Texas at Waco ISD.

Rene excelled as a mother and grandmother and enjoyed every minute she had playing and teaching all her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing card games, crocheting blankets, hats, and stuffed animals, she loved reading a good book, and enjoyed the many bible groups she attended. Rene attended several church groups/communities through Journey Christian Community and thrived among the friends she made walking in faith.

Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses; Michelle and Cory Reed, Jesse and Monique Coatney, and Lisa and Mike Sharp; her grandchildren; Chelli Taylor, Kyla Taylor, Jaiden Taylor, Ambria Taylor, Hazel Reed, Donovan Coatney, Allen Sharp, Isaac Sharp, departed Andrew Coatney, Johnathon Coatney, DeJay Coatney; and her dog poppy. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
