Matriarch of Grace…
On February 25th 1934 it marks the day Mother Leah Ezetta Douglas a true queen was born in Somerville, Texas. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Thelma & Frank Scarlett. They had fifteen children eight of which were girls Leah being the oldest, and a twin. She spent her elementary school years in Somerville, but later ran track, played basketball, and graduated from Moore High School in Waco, Texas. She then married a great man named Freddie D. Douglas on March 15, 1951. Leah was blessed to be a Mother of ten beautiful children being eight boys: Pastor Maxwell Douglas, Elder Marvin Douglas, Elder Charles Douglas, Elder Frederick Douglas, Min. Anthony Douglas, Rudolph Douglas, Fernando Douglas, Christopher Douglas; two girls Min. Ezetta Cleveland and Missionary Frances Douglas. She extended her love not to just her own children, but all her nieces and nephews.
Mother Douglas was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church of God and Christ for sixteen years. While there she was the President of the YPWW, the youth Sunday school teacher, and she sung in the church choir. Mother Douglas was always willing to work in the house of the Lord. She would say, “If you’re going to do anything it might as well be for God”! Mother Douglas and her family later left and became members of Rock of Ages Church of God and Christ to support her son’s journey as Pastor of his own congregation. Mother Douglas impacted everything being the Sunday school teacher, Director of the sunshine band, church choir, and the first Church Mother.
Leah was married for thirty three years until God called her husband home. She was then a widow, but declared not to love another other than Deacon Freddie D. Douglas. Leah devoted herself to God and her family. She was the epitome of a virtuous woman. Her smile, class, intelligence, love, prayers, counseling, discipline, teaching, jokes, humility, her ability be graceful, the uniqueness, and excellence in all things set Mother Douglas apart and made her royalty. She took pride and honor in being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, auntie, friend, and overall matriarch of this family.
