Leslie was born October 3, 1942, to Elbert Brown and Helen Crow. In January of 1959, Leslie, affectionately known as “Toodie”, met her true love, David “Doc” Hendrix while he was serving in the Navy in California. They married and went on to share 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a beautiful family, welcoming two children into their lives, Johnny and Lisa. In 1973, Doc and Toodie moved to Doc’s home state of Texas to raise their family. Upon arriving in Texas, Toodie started her working career at Waco ISD as Food Service Manager for all campuses. She retired from the City of Waco Human Resources Department after several years of dedicated service.
A woman of grace and vibrancy, Leslie found joy in dancing, playing Bridge and Dominos, and partaking in the camaraderie of the Red Hat Club. She also enjoyed camping with David and friends in the Good Sam’s camping club. Yet, above all her passions, her deepest devotion resided with her family, particularly her grandchildren, whom she adored witnessing excelling in sports, rodeo and horsemanship and music.
Toodie was preceded in death by her loving husband, David; parents, Elbert and Helen; and her four siblings.
Toodie is survived by son, John Hendrix and wife Monica; daughter, Lisa Willis and husband Bob; grandchildren, Mandi Roberts and husband Jonathon, Casey Willis, Chance Hendrix and wife Suzy, Brady Willis, and Brett Hendrix and wife Nicole; and great-grandchildren, Corbin, Kamryn, Johnny, Payton, and Graham.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated and caring 4th-floor team at Saint Catherine Center, with special thanks to Chris and Mary, for their unwavering care and compassion during a time of profound loss.
Leslie Hendrix’s legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories will forever illuminate the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
