Mr. Loraine Taylor was born on June 5, 1939 to the late Will Jr. and Mary Taylor in Gholson, Texas. He was a 1957 graduate of Dunbar High School in West, Texas. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army where he would serve twenty years and seven days until his retirement in 1977.
Mr. Taylor then worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Lawton, Oklahoma as a Maintenance Technician for twenty years and retired in December of 1999. In 2000, he retired back to his home state of Texas and joined Wayside Church of God In Christ under the pastorate of Dr. Charles E. Davis and wholeheartedly served in many capacities including being one of the trustee members for the church.
Mr. Taylor was an avid gardener, enjoyed being a “42” domino player with the players of the Lacy Lakeview Community Center, and was a strong supporter of education where he served in the office of Treasurer for the Dunbar Alumni Association.
Later in life he joined St. Mary’s Baptist Church in Waco, Texas under the pastorate of Reverend Gregory Griggs where he was actively involved and invested in the youth. Mr. Taylor believed in giving back to the youth with whom he came into contact with by his church affiliations as well as he always passed on his words of wisdom and encouragement for those who were in need.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents; brother Marvin Taylor; and sister Lillie Rhymes.
Survivors include a very loyal and dedicated wife, Mrs. Susie Sharp Taylor who was also his devoted caregiver until his death; two sons, Kenneth Taylor and Anthony Taylor (Lynn); two daugthers, Miriam R. Cooper (Gerald) and Dr. Susan C. Thames; siblings; Jimmie B. Rose, Willie M. Brown (Bert), Cecile Promise; sister-in-law’s Ethel Taylor, Ruby J. Scott, Lois Revis (Melvin), Ora B. Davis, Sarah B. Dad,
My heart is heavy but I am so thankful for the time God allowed us to have you physically with us. There a far too many memories to list but I will always treasure your constant support and encouragement as I began to make my way to adulthood and developed my educational and professional career; you being a front row cheerleader for “Scooter”, “Mr.B,” and “Nikki;” the family time shared just because you believed in us being with each other; your words of wisdom and genuine kindness to so many people who came within your midst; your “Hey, Hey, Hey laugh;” and just having our talks about so many things or whatever came to our minds at the time.
We have gained a new guardian angel and God got a good one when he called you home. You deserve your rest now and I know we will walk together once again.
I love you way past the moon and back!
Hugs and Blessings to you always,
“Lil Sue”
Mrs. Susie S. Taylor & Family,
Words can not express the loss that we feel with the passing of our Brother, Lo. Family events won’t be the same without him because he was always such a vibrant participant who believed in being joyful and just having a good time! While we will truly miss him, we know that he will always be with us in spirit. However, we pray that you and the immediate family will take comfort in knowing that he has received the Ultimate Healing, so he is in a better place and is free of all pain and suffering. May God continue to Bless and Keep you in his Care, especially at this most difficult time. With Much Love!
Your Sister, Sarah S. Lewis and Family
Have Faith In Self
Today I made myself in life anew,
By going to that royal fount of truth,
And searching for the secret of the few
Whose goal in life and aim is joy forsooth.
I found at last the friend and counselor
That taught me all that I in life should know;
It is the soul, the sovereign chancellor,
The guide and keeper of the good you sow.
I am advised-“Go ye, have faith in self,
And seek once more the guide that lives in you”
Much better than the world of sordid pelf,
Alas! I found the counsel to be true.
Aha! I know right now that I shall see
The good in life, and be a better man;
I will by thought and deed pull all to me,
In saving others, yea, every one.
Go down and search yourself awhile in part,
And tell me all of what you see and hear;
Isn’t there something pulling at your heart?
Tell me the truth and have ye then no fear!
There is a voice that speaks to man, within,
It is the Soul that longs for you to know
There is no need for you to grope in sin,
For you in truth and light may ever grow.

Pepa,
Words cannot express how heavy my heart has been these past few weeks.. I love you to the moon and back PEPA. You have been my biggest fan since I opened my eyes into this world. From taking me to see Barney, picking on me for sleeping all day like a racooon haha, picking me up everyday from pre-k all the way through high school, my cheerleader at my volleyball games and my track meets front row always..your hilarious phone calls making sure i get you some fresh livers and gizzards when I worked at bushes haha.
It just warms my heart seeing your big bright smile when I randomly popped up in Waco, without announcing when I would come..I would just go surprisingly just so I can see how happy you and granny would be seeing my little head peep out the window. ..but Pepa, your support, your love and your words of wisdom will forever be treasured within me. You will forever have a piece of your “lil baby’s” heart.. you are my hero & I love you so much…and I cannot wait till we hug again…! It hurts that I won’t be able to physically see you, but it’s a blessing that you are no longer in pain but you are now my guardian angel watching over me..forever… I love you soooo much pepa! Rest in paradise. Genesis 31:49 you will always have that piece of me, forever ❤
