Lorena Hejl Simek , age 90, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Visitation is 6 to 8:30 pm Tuesday, November 11, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 12, at Harper –Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, under the direction of Lake Shore Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Adams officiating. Lorena was born July 30, 1924, in Bell County, to John and Annie Clara Hejl. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred Simek of 62 years, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Lorena was a homemaker, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her heart’s desire was spending time with her family, cooking with a uniqueness and style of her own while making kolaches, sugar cookies and macaroni and cheese; always making sure to sprinkle love into every dish she prepared. Lorena had a wonderful smile that would light up a room and a heart-felt kindness toward others that welcomed many into her home. She also enjoyed bringing on a “skunk” while playing her domino games.
Lorena leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her children, Caroline and Tommy Banks, Linda and Lonny Nolan, Larry and Judy Simek, Wanda Maddy and Joel Haltom, Janis and Sam Drake, and Lori and Darrell Hodges; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; sister Wilma Schiller and brother Wilbur Hejl, and many family and friends.
The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to Hospice Plus and Bradfield House of Mesquite for the loving care and support during a very difficult time.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Jason Nolan, Tony Banks, Patrick Nolan, Jeremy Simek, Justin Hodges and Jase Hodges.
We love and miss you Mother, you are forever in our hearts!
