Louis “Dub” Mitchell, Jr, 96, of Waco, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020 of natural causes.
Service Information: A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the New Fairview Airport in Rhome, Texas where Mr. Mitchell lived with his son and daughter-in-law for several years after the passing of his wife.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Amarillo, Texas on November 14, 1923 to Louis and Agnes Mitchell. He worked in various cotton fields and on oil rigs until enrolling in the Air Force in February 1943. He served in the China Berma, India Theater during WWII until he was honorably discharged in March 1946. After serving in the Air Force, he married Betty (Potts) Mitchell on March 30, 1946 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Once relocated to Oklahoma City, he flew airplanes for the FAA for the remainder of his career. He often told of flying to 48 of the 50 US States during his occupation and was known as quite a jokester. He was an active member of the Oklahoma and Texas Chapters of the Antique Airplane Association. He loved all things Airplanes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his son, Michael Lewis Mitchell; daughter, Cora Beth Mitchell; brother, Robert (Bob); and sister, Patricia (Patti).
Survivors include his sister, Madeline Priest; daughter-in-law, Laurie Mitchell; nieces, Becky Dillahunty, Cindy Carter, Debbie Mitchell; and nephew, Robert Mitchell.
