Lynn Pearson

Pearson

Celia Lynn Pearson, 78, of Chalk Bluff, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at a local hospital.

Visitation: 3 to 5PM Sunday, March 10 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 10AM Monday, March 11 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband James.

Lynn was born in Waco on July 23, 1945 to Cecil and Evelyn Taylor. She graduated from Waco High School in 1963 and went on to attend Sam Houston State before she married James Pearson on June 18, 1965. Together they enjoyed 47 years before his passing. Lynn finished her teaching degree at Baylor University in 1967 and spent a long career in education as both a teacher and administrator with Connally ISD.

Lynn was a member at Northside Church of Christ where she worshipped and served the church. She was very involved with her church family and volunteered for the church garage sales, holiday events, and luncheons. She also worked in the missionary field in Jamaica where she met Deverny Brissett, the preacher at Spalding Church of Christ.

When she was not attending church service, Lynn volunteered for the Daughters of the Republic of Texas – Sterling C. Robertson chapter where she held many roles over her 50 years of membership. She involved her grandchildren in the Children of the Republic of Texas and fostered in them an appreciation of Texas history. Lynn loved spending time with her family and looked for opportunities to see them whenever she could, whether that was lunch on Sundays, summer vacations at Lake Whitney in the 11 house, or family reunions with the Greenhills.

She loved playing cards with her friends, getting her nails done in shades of red, and winning every game of Words with Friends. She had an excellent green thumb and spent hours on her deck with her dogs surrounded by plants and flowers that flourished under her care. Lynn was a great cook and baker, and she enjoyed making gingerbread cookies each Christmas with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful granny and had recently become a great-grandmother, which was a life achievement she was thrilled to reach. She was deeply proud of her sons and loved talking to and about them. She was cherished in each of her roles throughout her life: wife, mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, and colleague. Lynn had a strong and nurturing presence, and her memory will live on in all of us. Though she is enormously missed, we celebrate that she is reunited with her loving husband and is watching over us with the Lord.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Evelyn Taylor; and her husband, James Pearson.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven Pearson, and Chris Pearson (Alyssa); seven grandchildren, Emily Ou (John), Grant, Caleb, Gage, and Cameron Pearson, and Maddie and Chance Tibbitt; great-grandson, Ellis Ou; and sister Jane Johnson.

Place of Service: Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel , 5201 Steinbeck Bend; Waco, TX 76708

So sorry to hear of Lynn’s passing. I first met Lynn when she was my Sunday school teacher at Lakeview Church of Christ when I was 4 or 5. I still remember being a rice bag girl at her and James’ wedding. She was so kind and giving. My condolences to her family.

  5. Lynn was my friend through the Sterling C.Robertson Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She and I were roommates at the state conventions for years. We had fun, enjoyed each other’s company, and shared a love for our families and Texas. She spoke fondly of her sons and grandchildren (and her dogs). Wishing all the family God’s peace and comfort through this difficult time. Sue Vernon

Dear Steven, Chris and families. I first met Lynn at Lakeview Church of Christ when I was a teenager. She was so sweet and friendly. In later years when my husband and I lived in Dallas, she would invite us to stay with her when we came to Waco to visit my mom. She was a wonderful cook and we enjoyed her Sunday lunches. Please know that we are praying for peace and comfort for all of you.

Mrs Pearson was a wonderful teacher instilling a love for learning in our children. Her classroom was a model of organization. Our children often complimented her on how much they learned while in her 5th grade class. Many thanks to her family for sharing her with us, I know she will be missed.

  10. I completed my student teaching with Mrs. Pearson over 30 years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. She was compassionate, caring, and had very clear and high expectations . . . everything I needed as a college kid. She believed in me when I had doubts and she made me do the hard parent conferences. We lost a student during that term. Watching her handle that situation has always stayed with me. I am still teaching because of her guidance, love, and wisdom. She was an amazing person.
