Margarita (Margie) Mendez, 78, of Waco, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at a local hospice facility surrounded by her loved ones.
Mass of Christian Burial: 3:00 PM Monday, January 28 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2001 N 25th in Waco.
A visitation and rosary will be held prior to the service.
Margie was born July 20, 1940 in Marlin, to Prudencio and Tomasa Mendez. She worked at Mary’s Café, Waffle House, and Wolf Manufacturing. She married Valdin Varner on August 5, 1977. She moved to Waco in 1986, where she spent the rest of her life. Margie was a very loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She loved to go watch her grandsons play their sports. Baseball was her favorite. She loved babysitting her grandkids and great grandkids. She loved to go dancing and playing bingo. She loved cooking meals for her son and family on Sundays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Valdin Varner; parents, Prudencio and Tomoas Mendez; grandparents, Sabas and Elena Canales; sister, Juanita Mendez; and brother, Johnny Mendez.
She is survived by her son, Frank and wife Tammy Mendez of Waco; granddaughters, Anna (Cody) Mendez, of Robinson, Christina Mendez, of Longview; grandson, Hunter (Cierra) Thompson, and Valdin Mendez, all of Waco; great-grandchildren; Katie, Caden, Amber, Cannon, Liam and Kayson; sisters, Nina Spencer and Rosie Martinez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to Lakeshore Village staff and Providence Hospice staff.
Pallbearers will be Valdin Mendez, Hunter Thompson, Caden Coe, and Roy Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
