Marietta was born on April 5, 1946 in Hico to William R. and Marie L. (Bill) Churchill. She was raised as the 7th of 8 children, and had many cherished childhood memories. Originally a cook by profession, Mary earned her associates degree in business management from McLennan Community College, and spent many years as a cafeteria manager for Waco ISD. In addition to her love of cooking, Mary’s many hobbies included reading, needlepoint, cross-stitching, and the newspaper’s daily crossword and Jumble puzzles.
Mary loved perfection in everything, and always strived to be an exceptional mother and wife. She and Miller traveled extensively around the US, enjoying camping in national park campgrounds in their travel trailer. They were often accompanied by one of their beloved dogs – Plooper, Tory and Ginger. She was an active member of China Springs United Methodist Church, and loved cooking for the children there. Mary always preferred to give rather than receive, and frequently told Miller, “I love you the greatest.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, W.R. Churchill and A.B. Churchill.
Survivors include husband Miller R. Brister of Waco; children, Jeff Douglas and wife Angela of Flower Mound, Chris Douglas and wife Carol of Rowlett, Robin Leigh Brister of Traverse City, MI, Scott Andrew Brister and wife Julie of Georgetown, Susan Catherine Brister of Georgetown, Michael Ann Adams and husband Paul of Dallas, GA, Steven Miller Brister and husband Carmine Salvucci of Austin; 16 grandchildren, Aaron, Victoria, Isabella, Morgan, Chris, Shea, Caitlyn, Michael, Lizzie, Susannah, Sarah, Maddie, Janelle, Rachel, Baltazar, and Andrew; sisters, Marie Churchill of Baton Rouge, LA, Marcie Hampton and husband Larry of Mountain Home, AR, Mariletha Ballard of Mineral Wells, and Alyce Terry of Lindale; brother, Winston Churchill and wife Diane of McGregor; and many nephews and nieces.
